And if trump allows exports of oil and Nat gas, both will jump in price here. Combined with nuke SMR and wind/solar going lower in costs, fossil fuel will continue to disappear in America.

yes, we will get rid of the executives.
However, their is no sense in adding to our problems. As such, it makes sense to send home the illegals that have not integrated, and are simply doing work and sending the bulk of the money earned back home. With that, we can instead pay Americans better wages, and keep re-investing it in our own economy.

Basically, it is long past time that we quit outsourcing and that is what illegals do; they outsource the jobs that can not be.
So, hopefully, we get a COMPROMISE in which the families that have successfully integrated (kids in our schools for 4 or more years; still in it or have GED/better;etc), while send others home.

  10. bad choice apple on Why Apple Just Invested in Wind Turbines In China (cnn.com) · · Score: 1

Basically, China continues to put in more new coal plants (35-50 GW / year) than they put in AE (20-30 GW / year).
They should stop ALL new coal plants and start closing them, esp. the old ones. BUT, they are counting on these to power their EVs, which is what they are pushing more.
now, this may look like Apple is helping, but they are not. China will continue to build out NEW coal plants that exceed the AE. As such, prices for electricity will go down and their investment will be worthless.

  11. Status symbol? They are having massive pollution problems and EVs are none polluting.

  12. Really? Only rich ppl drive cars?
Last time I was in Europe, I saw PLENTY of regular ppl driving cars.
However, unless you get those ICE off the road, nothing will change. And making public transportation free will NOT change things. The reason why they are not taken is that they are no convenient and were poorly designed.

  13. Seriously, it is much cheaper to quit taxing EVs than subsidizing public transportation.

  14. Seriously, when are western companies going to quit trying to cut corners in China?

  15. Few of china's old power plants are GW size. They tend to be .5 and under. It was not until the 90s when GE gave their info to China that things changed.
And even America has more coal plants that are in .5GW and lower, then in the > .5 GW size.

  16. who says that they will do anything BUT that ?
Economics dictates that you run those plants for 50 years or more.
And considering that China continues to build up more new coal plants than they are putting in new AE (wind and solar and hydro COMBINED), it is pretty certain that China will not shut these down.

visas are fine. Seriously. NO ISSUES with green cards.
The 2 big issues is the massive number of illegals living here (probably a lot closer to 30 million, not 12 million; last time, stats got it all wrong)
And then the huge misuse of H1Bs.

The solution is to add more visas for position based, as opposed to family based, while solving the illegals and remove the H1Bs.
In addition, for the position based green card, the pay needs to be at least AVERAGE for that position (no less), while the taxes are double of which the company will pay the second portion.

  22. actually, the average working coal plant in America is around 300 MW. WIth nuscale it will take 6 units (50 MWe), but MPower is supposed to have 180 MWe. Likewise, the others are looking at 100-200 MWe.

  23. no. Several of the reactor design will actually burn up most of the waste. IOW, we have something like 100,000 tonnes (including what is burning right now). This will be dangerous for 200,000+ years.
BUT, with several of these reactor design, it will burn 95% of this up and give up 5000 tonnes which will be safe in 200 years. this is far better and safer than putting it in the ground.

  24. the ones being shut down are 50-100 MW in size. The new ones are GW in size. Neither old or new run emissions controls (though the new ones have the controls installed per treaty with Japan, but the gov allows plants to run WITHOUT controls). IOW, these new plants will use more than 10-20x as much coal as the one that they replace.

  25. actually, nu scale will have their first reactor working by 2023 and production line set-up.
In addition, if they get the funding that they are hoping for, they will be ready by 2020.

mPower is also looking for funding and they can have their first reactor out within 3 years after that.
Considering that Trump/GOP are talking about funding these companies (they love subsidies as long as it is to companies that they/friends own), it is hopeful that within 6 months, both of these 2 and hopefully a few others will be fully funded.
We need to not only replace coal plants, but time to shut down some of these older ones and put up new ones. I would esp like to see us put in reactors that burn up the current waste.
