hmmmm. I do not think that you understand what the job is. These men are ran through drills where all of the sounds, and feelings would be the REAL thing. IOW, for their drills, they really believe that they are going through the real thing. That is harsh. It causes these men/women to have some hard strains on them. And being locked up when your family is suffering, is even harder.
My sister was in the hospital with a 106 fever when the cuban missle crisis started. So, he had to sit on a runway for 3 days, with a nuke about 20' away from him, ready to fly to USSR and drop it, while he had absolutely NO idea of how his daughter was doing in the hospital. It was not until the stand down that he found out that she was alive. That is a hard thing to do.
how are we trying to convince others to give up their nukes while we keep our own?
O is trying to Russia to work on a new start treaty, but with China as part of it. So far, putin and China are fighting against that.
But, I can not think of where else we are trying to get nations to give up their nukes.
zero chance of human extinction from nuke war. It is silly that ppl make such claims today when America and Russia have less than 1/3 of the nukes that we used to have. The real problem is that other nations are producing nukes.
unless the other side believes that it can win. And that is the problem with China. To many of their leaders, MAD can be defeated. Hence the 3000+ miles of tunnels, combined with nuclear production underground, along with submarine production being done underground as well.
we are no longer in contact with our food, so our evolution is changing. But add in antibiotics and you realize that we are destroying some needed gut bacteria that helps us digest these foods.
Far too many think that evolution is a relatively simple thing. A bit of radiation, some changes, and then genetic selection occurs. Nothing could be further from the truth. Our DNA is designed to solve the radiation issues (otherwise, you get cancer and die quickly).
Instead, there are a large number of unknown virus that move from eukaryote to eukaryote. It will take a sequence of genes from one species, to another. Basically, animals that are in close contact will get genes from the other.
One of the implications for this, is that the more that we remove wildlife, the more that we are destroying our own evolution. It is a mistake to do that. In fact, when we move off the planet, unless we bring a large numbers of animals and plants, the off-planet colony will come to a near halt WRT evolution.
well, there are lots of places where the F-16 does fine. Personally, I think that the F-16 should be replaced by drones rather than F-35's. It would be cheaper to manufacturer loads of these. That is also why I think that the next bomber should be based on BWB, and then see boeing create a simplier version for cargo, perhaps tankers (3-4 refuel lines would be very useful). And from that, move into civilian cargo and then passengers. Yeah, a number of ppl dislike the g's on the edge, but simply charge less for those edges.
We need a new bomber, but one that makes sense. A simple idea would be for Boeing to use the BWB as a bomber, and then carry it over to commercial aircraft as well.
gee, that's nice. However, the amount of coal that USA burns is not that much, while China continues to grow theirs at major rates. Even now, China burns more than 50% of the coal that is burned in the world.
Sadly, Xcel is one of the worst energy companies going. I live in Colorado and they merged with a decent set-up. Then they have been gutting it through and through. They do as little as possible to change things, unless you force them. Right now, is the ideal time for them to switch to EOS energy for peaking power, yet, they are doing little to nothing. And with solar and wind coming on strong, they are still fighting that. So, now Boulder CO is trying to fire up their own municipal power system, and will likely win out. Yet, Xcel is spending millions fighting it.
it is too bad that so many nuke power plants never think to make co-heating with other systems. One easy idea would be for working with shrimp and growing them local.
What is really need are tax incentives to move off all of these heat means and go to geo-thermal HVAC. For most of the lower 48, geo-thermal is truly the dirt cheap way to go. But it kills me that most of that heating oil is imported from Venezuela.
yup. A 3000 mile long tunnel with a nuke power plant in it, and apparently, other nuclear work.
BTW, you do realize that Russia has several 1000 more nukes than does USA? Yes?

what is sad, is that the USAF has not decided to reverse poppa Bush's mistake. SAC really is needed.

and why not luxembourg?

Actually, I prefer to have senior ppl with their finger on the buttons. Far too many young guys WANT to go to war.

NSA was watching Saudi arabians and found airbus offering illegal bribes. That was then reported. It was not stealing tech from them.
It was just dust devils. With the climate changing, more ppl will see what we get in Colorado regularly.

Oh, I think that we need a cheap single engine fighter to replace the F-16. Sadly, the F-35 is a nightmare.
not even close to the F22. OTOH, the F35 .... meh.
because it was developed by BOTH Indians and Russian and both are flying it.

nope. BUT, in light of the money lost on Target, I am guessing that is about to change.
Thorium is not dead yet.

shhh. The vast majority of /.'s did not know that either. Keep in mind that it is a secret.
