IOW, for their drills, they really believe that they are going through the real thing. That is harsh. It causes these men/women to have some hard strains on them. And being locked up when your family is suffering, is even harder.
My sister was in the hospital with a 106 fever when the cuban missle crisis started. So, he had to sit on a runway for 3 days, with a nuke about 20' away from him, ready to fly to USSR and drop it, while he had absolutely NO idea of how his daughter was doing in the hospital. It was not until the stand down that he found out that she was alive. That is a hard thing to do.

  11. evolution via virus on How Farming Reshaped Our Genomes · · Score: 1

Far too many think that evolution is a relatively simple thing. A bit of radiation, some changes, and then genetic selection occurs. Nothing could be further from the truth. Our DNA is designed to solve the radiation issues (otherwise, you get cancer and die quickly). Instead, there are a large number of unknown virus that move from eukaryote to eukaryote. It will take a sequence of genes from one species, to another. Basically, animals that are in close contact will get genes from the other.

One of the implications for this, is that the more that we remove wildlife, the more that we are destroying our own evolution. It is a mistake to do that. In fact, when we move off the planet, unless we bring a large numbers of animals and plants, the off-planet colony will come to a near halt WRT evolution.

well, there are lots of places where the F-16 does fine. Personally, I think that the F-16 should be replaced by drones rather than F-35's. It would be cheaper to manufacturer loads of these. That is also why I think that the next bomber should be based on BWB, and then see boeing create a simplier version for cargo, perhaps tankers (3-4 refuel lines would be very useful). And from that, move into civilian cargo and then passengers. Yeah, a number of ppl dislike the g's on the edge, but simply charge less for those edges.

They do as little as possible to change things, unless you force them. Right now, is the ideal time for them to switch to EOS energy for peaking power, yet, they are doing little to nothing. And with solar and wind coming on strong, they are still fighting that. So, now Boulder CO is trying to fire up their own municipal power system, and will likely win out.
