How soon will Allen put money into something like Bigelow or IDC Dover? Basically, to make this profitable, he will want to have multiple destinations to go to. Of course, they could rent out the carrier since it will have some impressive cargo capability.

But I really think that Allen's goal is to do for Space what Allen's charter did for internet over cable, or musk's tesla did for electric cars. Allen will likely want to hurry BA or IDC along.

This ties into revelations about China's hidden systems.

Now, the funny part is that everybody will blame O for not going into Iran to steal this back. Yet, this is proof that we have a fucked up industrial-military complex. We need to crack down hard on security, since it should be obvious that we have security issues. But we will not. We will continue this way.

Hell, the bulk of EU is moving their worst emitters over to nations that are NOT covered by kyoto. That is a joke. EU is killing their nuke power plants and then buying from either other nuke plants OR buying from coal plants outside of kyoto. In addition, you have EU 'BUYING' CO2 credits. It is INSANE.

The ONLY way to make this happen, is for nations to TAX ALL GOODS (local and imported) based on CO2 emissions from where the item is assemblied and where the largest sub-components come from. Keep in mind that this is not a tax that remains there. It is up the nations where items are produced. If a nation has close to the accepted amount of emissions, then they will have no taxes. OTH, a nation like China will have 100% of the increasing taxes (yes, CHINA). In addition, this tax needs to be calculated NOT on per capita, but on PPP GDP or SQ km of land. The fact is, that ppl are not the major emitters. It is the GDP that does it.

First off, the running of the ISS is NOT that expensive. It was expensive because we were building it and using the shuttle. Now, that we are at a stopping point, the running of it is pretty cheap. It is also about to be cheaper with launches in no small part due to SpaceX. However there are 2 main issues with the ISS:
    1) they manufacture NOTHING. Absolutely NOTHING. EVERYTHING has to be imported, just like sending a bunch of robots to Mars.
    2) they do not do a good job of recycling. As such, it require a number of resources, namely water, hydrogen, O2, etc.

OTH, we can send a crew to Mars with a greenhouse, a base, etc. They will need energy, but that can be done via nukes, geo-thermal, and ideally a solar sat (that can also beam energy to robots). Likewise, water is a none issue. Garbage? Not a big deal. A greenhouse for growing food is easy enough to do, though the crew should have enough food to last at least 2 launch cycles (in case one is lost). Basically, for the costs of sending less than 10 FH's, we can put a crew on mars. Then we send supplies every 2 years.

What I find interesting is that so many ppl want to send ppl on a 2--way mission. Instead, it should be thought of as a 1-way mission and have them go there and stay at least a decade. One of the most important reasons is that Mars DOES have the likelihood of having life. If so, the last thing that we want to do, is bring it back here.

Basically, the group of ppl would focus on survival, building out a base, and of course science. But much of the work there could be carried out by robotics, with the ppl their to control and fix them. In addition, it would actually be cheaper and safer to do the 1-way.

    Now, along comes CCDEV,
which spent 50 million in 2010 for 5 companies.
Spent 270 million in 2011 for 4 companies.
and 500 million in 2012 for 3-4 companies.

Now, I am opposed to what the neo-cons (and a single idiotic dem) have tried to do to private space. HOWEVER, the fact is, that O HAS managed to keep the money flowing to private space and yes, it IS increasing. Is it as much as many want? Nope. It would have been MUCH better to have the 850 million that O wanted. HOWEVER, it is 500 million for 1 year, while COTS was less than 100 million/year.
In addition, it is highly likely that next year, the amount will rise to 1 billion or more AND we will see money flow to Bigelow (who is actually MORE important than any single human launch carrier INCLUDING SpaceX).

Basically, USA will be back in space with private launchers by 2014. It will include SpaceX, and possible Dream Chaser. By 2016, we will have 3 human launchers. IFF the neo-cons do not gut private space, we can get Bigelow in space starting end of 2014 (this is still possible even with the layoffs). That is the most important piece because it allows the human launchers to be relatively quiickly profitable. Keep in mind that at most, ISS will only use 1 human launcher a quarter. With the BA unit, they will add at least 1 human launcher / quarter, but possible more.

The reason is that once you have several destinations with the ability to have competition for launch, prices will drop and more nations and businesses can afford to jump on to the space station. Personally, I would love to see either Paul Allen or the google boys pour some money into SpaceX, even if a combination of investing and lending, to get Human launch occurring quickly.
