That transmission is expensive to have in there, and expensive to run. The more layers that you have, the worse your performance. In addition, the higher your maintenance costs are.
My guess is that they did not add this for the end consumer. I am guessing that they added this to increase their bottom line.
As I have said all along, you would have to be a fool to buy a volt.
Seriously, A TRUE serial hybrid using multiple engine/generators DOES make sense for something like the hummer or even a semi. BUT, for small cars? Nope. Far better that these are pure electrics, and if you need a 'range extended', then simply buy a gas car. Here in the states, most families own 2 cars. It makes sense for most homes to buy an electric. But the idea of a car carrying both gas/electric makes zero sense. BTW, for those that think that trucks/hummer/semis do not make sense, well, let me point out that many trucks are used for job sites. As such, the engine/generator/battery is GREAT for providing electricity. Likewise, for a semi, the bulk of the time, the semi is cruising. As such, a simple engine/generator/motor can provide the power to move it. What is interesting is that an electric motor has far more torque than does an engine. This avoids the expensive and complex transmissions that semi's have. As such, it is perfect for getting heavy loads moving.
And yet, the water is going to India to be packaged. I would not be surprised to find out that the oil for the bottles is also coming from Alaska. Amazing.
No, we are not. OTH, China will get loads of tech that will be put into Missiles. The reason is that Chinese space agency IS A MILITARY GROUP. It is NOT civilian.
Actually, we cooperate VERY closely with JAXA. And ESA, and RKA, and even CSA. I think that with private space taking off, we will see even more cooperation. The problem that exists is that we did not cooperate as much with companies that dealt heavily with China. Why not? Because we are seeing our tech flow into an organization that is not civilian, but is Military. And yes, Chinese space agency is 100% Military controlled. They are the ONLY space agency that is, that NASA has some form of cooperation with.
It has nothing to do with freedom. If recreational drugs are freed (though regulated), prices would plummet. How much drug money flows to pols? I would bet a LOAD.
The problem is that there are no other alternatives. Have a legal safe cheaper alternative and the prison time and penalities will kill the business.
And while you say that the feds will change 400, I doubt it. They will drop it to $10/oz,or what ever the going rate is for medical mmj. Gangs, drug imports, money export issues are all solved.
BTW, if you think that American prisons are fun, then you either love violence, or you are female. Women prison is not that bad from what I have heard from 2 women that I know. HOWEVER, the guys that I know that have gone, tell me that you do not want to go.
EXACTLY. So please explain how decriminilizing will improve things? It will not. It will encourage buyers (increased demand), which will lead to increased price, which will be supplied by? What? GANGS. LOADS AND LOADS of GANGS will be in your school. Under NO circumstance decriminalize drugs. EVER. Legalize it, or crack down harder (which will pretty much only work if you execute and all who are involved in any way with drugs; basically it will not work).
First, make for step prison time for selling or buying illegal drugs.
Second, make the price for legal stuff LOW at first.
If buyers can get it cheaper and safer from the gov, than buying it from drug dealers, AND they know that they will go to prison IF they buy from a deal, then dealers will quit.
Decriminalize is EXACTLY what causes your kids to buy it from the street. In addition, it feeds the gangs money. LOTS OF MONEY. Instead, legalize it, and control it via gov. controlled stores like Utah does. Likewise, allow pot to be farmed, but it must go to gov. controlled stores only. MOST IMPORTANTLY, crack down HARD on ANYBODY selling it or transporting it. Basically, break the gangs and the importers/exporters. Western wealth is at the heart of the world wide drug system. We need to stop it all production. But you can not unless you control it.
Actually, while the USSR had many inventions, space access was not really one of them. America was much further ahead, which is why we made it to the moon first. Soviets basically developed things along a similar line to America, but would push the tech PRIOR to being ready. Of course, the do get to say that they had some first. But things like claiming that they invented the space suit first, is total balony. Just that they used it a couple of months earlier.
Heck, even sputnik was pretty worthless, while AMerica's first sat, was announced first and did loads of scientific work. Even USSR's launch of Laika was nothing like what they described back then.
LEGALIZE all drugs for use at your own private RESIDENCE. i.e. no private business and no parties. If caught outside of RESIDENCE under influence then some minimum
for 15 years, Allow private business to provide medical mmj (they must grow it and sell it at one location; no buying from elsewhere). In addition, allow farmers to grow mmj, but only sell to gov.\.
for 15 years, the feds provide all recreational drugs, available ONLY at a gov. control stores similar to what Utah has for liquor.
NO exporting OR importing of recreational drugs. Steep penalties (first time offender has free housing for 5 years; second time 20 years; and 3'rd, for life).
provide increased money to police gangs and treat addicts.
Absolutely, do NOT decriminalize the drugs. Legalize them. And do not allow production to every go into gang hands or to be imported/exported. THis is purely about getting control of our borders and ending drug use. Gangs push more drugs than anything else because it is HIGHLY profitable. Stop the profit incentive and you kill the gangs and imported drugs from Mexico and China.
Derek,
I am guessing that you do not live in mountainous areas. MANY of the RR tracks have no roads there. ANd when it comes to doing an elevated, the aerostat works great. In fact, a lot of logging now uses blimps/aerostats/etc to lift the logs out of the area. A small version like this could potentially work on it.
Actually, I can think of many places that can use this. For starters, here in the west, we have large amounts of areas in the mountains that are expensive to build at. OTH, if a structure can be taken up there, that changes economics. In addition, imagine building a monorail/maglev. Putting in elevated track is expensive unless you have a lots of nice easy access. This makes it easy to build out a fast track.
There are not that many fire hydrants floating around the mountains and parks that form the west slopes of Colorado. In fact, the VAST majority of Western USA has very little fire hydrants (I would guess that less than 5% of our lands have hydrants). That is why we get large fires that form over 1000's of miles of land. And most of the ariel firefighting equipment is small. On the order of 5-10 K gallons. The largest currently available is the evergreen 747 which holds at most 24 K gallons. And it costs a FORTUNE to operate and does not have easy access to many runways here. In Colorado, it could only land at DIA. None in Wyoming. None in Idaho. Only Salt Lake City in Utah.
Lets see. Different nations. Different designs. Different business ppl. Different backing. Different economy. But the same idea to lift heavy things. Comparing Cargolifter to this company is like comparing CP/M to Linux, Unix, Mac OSX, or Windows 7.
Take a look at Cargolifter. It is ARCHAIC in its design. It would have had extreme difficulty in small winds, let alone heavy winds. All sorts of balance issues, etc.
Here in Colorado and most parts of the west, we do not have have easy access to water. BUT, if something like this could carry 150 tones of water to a fire, well, that can help make a difference. In fact, with a good design, the carrier can be quite a bit lower than the lifter which means that they can put this close to the fire, prior to dumping the water.
They do not need to. They simply fix the Yuan against the dollar, subsidize, and then dump the product. With their QA, we even have a double entendre here.
it is not like any engineer will ever be able to design homes to be picked up or to be mobile. Nor will 50-100 tonnes Nuke power plants be designed for that either.
It is time for America to quit dumping our Helium. It is going to get very expensive soon. In addition, it might be time to encourage capture from out many natural gas wells.
That transmission is expensive to have in there, and expensive to run. The more layers that you have, the worse your performance. In addition, the higher your maintenance costs are.

And if they have a nuclear reactor underground, then we will be sure to give them our best.
As to Iran coming up with an innovative design, that WOULD be amazing.
And yet, the water is going to India to be packaged. I would not be surprised to find out that the oil for the bottles is also coming from Alaska. Amazing.

Well, this is the time of the year to have zombies, but normally, when something is dead, it is dead.

So, when a company with a totally different design fails, that means that new approaches will fail as well.

Apparently, they have an issue with other nations/companies ignoring IP laws and stealing their tech. While many other companies have thought to do airship lifters, this UFO approach is unique. Even the propulsion appears well thought out. Good luck to them.
