This is no different than when China had to reverse their 50 year lie about coal and how they were caught just recently releasing 13,000 TONNES of CFCs into the atmosphere YEARLY. And it turned out that the Chinese gov KNEW that companies were doing it. Otherwise, they would not have been doing it all of the construction companies.

BUT, I suspect that with this going private, that investment money will be forthcoming, and Tesla will probably open up a NEW bid for a third GF in America.
At that point, any GOP politician that is fighting Tesla will likely have some explaining to do.

  7. Too bad. I thought you had a valid point. I'm pretty certain that Tesla will survive, but had it not been for something like this, so many would be working to destroy them.

  8. Problem is, that Tesla likely did not take these ppl money. I would guess that nearly all of stock was sold to ppl that want Tesla to succeed. Otoh, the shorters, unions, GOP, etc came along and are working to destroy Tesla.

  9. Oh, I suspect that issues over financing/gaap/etc is a huge part of it. But musk has multiple problems. The first is the shorters like chanos are manipulating the market. Then you have multiple lawsuits from ppl that are also trying BS. Add in the union garbage, and CA's playing with regulations, well, it might mean a private Tesla can make lots of changes with little issues.

  10. Let's hope that is exactly how it works. In light of so many that we're trying to destroy Tesla, I would enjoy finding out how many of these ppl will be harmed or possibly financially wrecked.

  11. The reason is because so many are shorting, sueing over fake stuff, etc . In this case, if you are smart, buy at least a share. Then you are in on this.

  12. They want their money in control. Like China, Saudi Arabia is investing in a number of western companies. Smart.

In May 2009, then United States Secretary of Energy Steven Chu stated: "Yucca Mountain as a repository is off the table. What we're going to be doing is saying, let's step back. We realize that we know a lot more today than we did 25 or 30 years ago. The NRC is saying that the dry cask storage at current sites would be safe for many decades, so that gives us time to figure out what we should do for a long-term strategy. We will be assembling a blue-ribbon panel to look at the issue. We're looking at reactors that have a high-energy neutron spectrum that can actually allow you to burn down the long-lived actinide waste. These are fast-neutron reactors. There's others: a resurgence of hybrid solutions of fusion fission where the fusion would impart not only energy, but again creates high-energy neutrons that can burn down the long-lived actinides. ...

Basically, chu, not O, wanted to make use of the 'waste' that we have, which is exactly what we should be doing.
I have written Perry several times to suggest that he NOT focus solely on coal, but that he push the SMRs, along with adding Desalination to these. I doubt that you live in the west, but we have serious droughts and with AGW, it will only get worse. The problem is, that we have losers in states like Texas and California that suck our water out of our rivers and then cry that we should not get the water that starts in our state.

Updated May 9, 2018 - 7:53 pm WASHINGTON — Nevada’s bipartisan congressional delegation united Wednesday against a bill to revive the licensing process on an Energy Department application to open Yucca Mountain as a nuclear waste repository. The state’s lawmakers also tried unsuccessfully to shape the bill through amendments. Nevada gov has been fighting this all along. Even with Reid gone, they are STILL fighting it.
Actually, just checked their congressional matrix. split, but more dems. However, all, including the state gov, are fighting against yucca.

  22. Actually, the largest consumer of Chinese goods, are the Chinese. The fact is, that we account for about 5% of their GDP, which is not that much.
BUT, with that said, I have been saying all along that America needs to put a increasing tax on all consumed goods/services based on where the worst part/service comes from, WRT CO2. By place, we need to use each nation, along with each state. With this approach, if a business uses say all Norway parts/services, then they have ZERO tax. Why? Because they have one of the lowest emissions in the world. OTOH, if they add a part/service from California, they might get a tax of 20% of the current tax. OTOH, if they add a part from say Texas, then it jumps up to around 60-70% (texas is pretty dirty). Finally, if from China, then the tax would be 100%. The idea is to get all medium/bad nations to drop their emissions, while rewarding the good nations.

A couple of caveats, which is we need to skip the gov lies. Instead, we need satellites to show the CO2 that flows IN/OUT of an area. We do not care where it comes from, only that it is produced there. It is up to the local govs to figure it out and clean it up. Otherwise the businesses will leave. BTW, OCO2 has shown that nations ARE cheating. It is because of OCO2 that CHina was forced to admit they lied about their coal consumption over the last 50 years. Once OCO3 is placed on the ISS and in place for about 2-3 months, then CHina and supposedly some European nations will be forced to admit that they burn even more.

In terms of normalization, skip the per capita. It is worthless. The reason is that you and I really do not decide. It is businesses and govs that really make the choices. For example, would the world car makers be switching off ICE to EVs if Tesla was not here? Nope. China might continue paying lip service, but that is all. BUT, Nissan, volt, bolt, E-golf, etc all are doing it because of tesla and no other reason. China has their own reason for switching. EVs in China will actually make things worse, not better. But, it will allow CHina to not depend on imported energy, but to use a greal more of their coal.

Regardless, if we do this, it would clean up the world.

Basically, space, like most innovations, is a case of building on the work of others with the initial work typically not even recognized. Nobody but the Germans recognized how great Goddard was. They BEGGED him to come work with them on developing his stuff. And when we captured V2s, and examined them, apparently a fair amount of Goddards work had gone into it, along with improvements.
