There market is about to shrink in a BIG way. If they were smart, they would jump on a couple of distros of linux and make sure that they are the standards. Adobe, Intuit, AutoCad all have programs that are in demand. If they port to this, they can quit having to compete against MS on MS's turf. More importantly, they would get a WHOLE NEW market with minimal competition.

If you have an easy to use publisher type software, then it should allow small groups to make some interesting stuff. In particular, with this recession getting worse, I think that we will see 15-20% with the current formula. And if we were using the old formula from GD days, we are already over 20% unemployment. The point being that PLENTY of ppl will have time and computers to think about this. They will decide to do something new and different. If I can make a suggestion, put your competitors links on your site. Let ppl know that this is moving forward.

We need to create a LIMITED monopoly. Basically, have a community grant a monopoly to a SMALL company. They bring in fiber from the home to a block or even subdivision level greenbox. THey would do NOTHING else. Just that one item. It would mean that they would charge the homeowner say 15-30/month, but then all else would be competitive. That is the ONLY way that we will get out of this and have a future that can jump.

I once had a lengthy discussion with an adult student of mine who belonged to Focus on the Family. His argument was that the earth was 5000 years old and carbon dating did not work. When I asked him why he said that, he explained that Dobson on the radio did a carbon dating of a knife BLADE and it indicated less than 100 years old. When I pointed out that Carbon Dating ONLY works on past living material and that it was false to use the metal blade, his argument was that I was wrong and Dobson was correct in using it.

THe simple fact is, that ppl like you will NEVER allow logic or facts to destroy your POV of the world. That is why America is in the shape that we are today. In fact, that is why the political world is in the shape it is. You are really no different than Al Qaeda. They have a warped view, but it is similar to yours. Most of the world does not have socialized health care. Socalist countries do as does most of the west. The real problem for us is that the vast majority of our jobs have gone to 2 countries; China and India. WHy? Because both have their money FIXED against the dollar. China uses a "basket", but the chinese gov controls the rate. More importantly, it goes up when Euro and yen go up against the dollar. When they go down, so does it. But the RATIO against the euro, yen, and dollar remained for the most part fixed, and it is designed to bleed all the western nations. India has fixed their money against the dollar. PERIOD. they tried to raise it from 50 rupee to 1 dollar to 40 rupees to a dollar and the gov was warn by a number of companies that if it remains or goes higher, they would pull out. So, the gov went back. India does drain the software engineer with this, but all in all, our 2 way trade is only slight off balanced. China is a whole other issue. They hold more than 2 TRILLION dollars. There is no doubt that if they freed up the exchange, that it would change from the current 6-7 yuen / dollar to 2-3 yuan / dollar, maybe lower. IOW, the price of good from there would be at least double, if not 3x what they are today. In addition, if CHina was required to clean up their emissions, the price of goods would double. And you think that health care does this???
