C: "Hello, Mr. Lasiewski? This is Chuck from the BSA. We're calling to inform you that we kicked your son out of the Boy Scouts because we discovered he was gay."
L: "Uh... but my son is not in Boy Scouts."
C: "Oh shit! Sorry... I mean, We're calling to inform you that we discovered that your son is using a pirated version of Windows XP..."
*To an Aussie, a "Yank" (or "Seppo", the derivation of which is kind of amusing but a little difficult to explain) is a citizen of the US. While it's often prefixed with "crazy", "loony" or a variety of epithets, we're casting
slurs on all US citizens rather than a subset:)
I'm sick of the way you Austrailians stereotype Americans! It's horrid! Let's give 'em the BOOT!
Sept 15, 1810: Mexican Independance Day (When Mexico left Spain).
May 5, 1862: Forces from France, England, Spain and a large rival Mexican army (But mostly France) were defeated near Mexico City; after attempting to re-occupy Mexico.
Hey, if you're going to say something so contraversial, why not try to back it up with more info. WHY do you think that 'even *you* can't exploit it commercially' ?
What is your view on GPL-utilizing companies who do seem to be making (or heading) towards profit now ?
This is great! The phone call takes 5 minutes, there are options to opt-out for 2 years, opt back into the system, and opt-out forever (as long as the information you provided is accurate).
They ask for the following information:
- Name (and spelling)
- Street Address
- Zip code
- Phone number
- Social Security Number
I did this a few years ago and the amount of junk credit card offers dropped by 90% . Since I last opted-out, I moved to another city, so I get more CCard offers now. So I opted out again (and I'm moving in 3 weeks, so I'll have to do this *again*).
Now if there was only an 800 number to allow you to opt out of all bank-financial-info-sharing systems (Since I'm with 4 banks right now).
Several months ago, IBM sprayed 'Peace Love Linux' on a zillion sidewalks in San Francisco, with what you call 'biodegradable chalk' on a zillion sidewalks in San Francisco.
Today, much of that graffiti is still there, even after several large rainstorms. When are you guys going to clean up your graffiti?
in order to get special developer downloads, I will have to have a Microsoft Passport account.
Maybe I'm missing something, and I'll get flamed to hell about this. Why is this a shocking or bad thing?
Before, in order to get special developer downloads, you needed an account with some other Microsoft Authentication service, right?
With this announcement, you need an account with some new Microsoft Authentication service.
Why is a Passport account so much more horrible then the old-style MS Authentication service?
MSDN is a division of Microsoft. It's pretty expected that a large company like MS would want to use a centralized authentication service. It's not like MS is using some strongarm tactics to muscle some non-MS business to use the Passport service (At least, not in the MSDN example).
I bet some of those specific exceptions include pornographic pictures (I notice that my Fax Machine and my Snail Mail Box are not cluttered with Porn Pictures, but with non pornographic junk ads).
90% of the Spam in my inbox is something I consider to be pornographic.
Ever see big Xs, +s or Ls painted on the pavement? Well those are there so the overflight photos can be tied to known geographic locations and the photos can be tied together to build a mosaic.
I see a fun anarchist legend in the works...
Get black paint, and cover up the white crosses.
Get white paint, and paint random Xs, +s or Ls all over your town in random locations.
Before they know it, the USGS will be mapping Los Angeles right next to San Jose! Wish I could see those Geologists faces right now...
"Holy shit! Now THAT is some big Continental Drift!"
Not content to roam away from Europe to the 'New World'
Wait, I though it was Europeans who became restless with and roamed away from Europe to the New World? Crud... damn biased history books!
I wonder how long it will be before someone like Rocket Man attaches a GPS system and a accute steering to a rocket and makes an intercontinental missle. It's not illegal to fire a few dozen exploding cans of Spam over to the County of Hampshire, is it?
So if I have a choice between one program that lets me only burn something in a crippled fashion, and another product that allows me to burn a CD with no cripples, I'd choose the product that allows the latter.
Are all radio stations free to play whatever music they want? I've been told that commercial radio stations were require to pay a fee if they played songs that were not on some 'list of singles and EPs' or something, and that Public Radio stations were exempt from this rule, and this was the reason why Public Radio stations played a wider range of music variety.
Am I wrong? Please note that I'm a real neophyte when it comes to radio politics. However, what I'm saying is a pretty commonly held belief.
I'm a big fan of the public radio stations here in the SF Bay Area: KPFA in Berkeley and KZSU in Stanford have some excellent music selections... especially late PM/early AM.
I'm also interested in creating my own audio streaming stations, but want to do it like the Public Radio stations do it... do it free and legally.
AOL has too much to lose if their software isn't pre-installed, it was their key to success in the first place. And Microsoft has too much to lose if AOL moves over to a Netscape-based client.
So if the negotiations break down, IE won't be the browser-of-choice on AOL software, and AOL will use Netscape 6.
However, even though Mozilla 0.9 is pretty decent, Netscape 6 is still pretty hideous. I know someone's going to reply with "butbutbut I downloaded the Nightly Builds, and they ROCK", but from my user perspective, both Mozilla and Netscape need work.
And from reading the previous Mozilla article "Mozilla 1.0 Delayed Again", some people think that Mozilla needs more resources (People to do more QA, documentation, programming, etc) to reach it's quarterly deadline. AOL can supply some of this labor.
This could be a boon for the Mozilla project, right?
And notice that I accidently hit the 'post anoymously' button... now, if that were a mission critical button, I would have screwed some mission critical server. Luckily, I was reading./ , and my servers were once again spared an untimely demise.
Unfortunately, none of those structures come anywhere close to being a good model for the storage of nuclear waste. I think the pyramids are the only buildings that come close to being airtight.
I have serious doubts that the most Governments are capable of building a structure that will remain air-tight leak-free and undisturbed by geological activity for the next 5,000 - 100,000 years.

Hey, as long as Taco doesn't start speaking in Douche or another toilet-language, I'm happy...

Yes, but I wouldn't mind my boss playing Pac Man!
Yeah, I was thinking that tatooing something like "Poor Impulse Control" across my forhead might make me look more like a non-criminal...
Given the lifestyles of so many dotcommers, I wouldn't be too suprised if some of them have the bodies of 4 aliens hidden in their car trunk...
This sounds like a great candidate for: DAR-WIN!

Or maybe they'll link to helpful sources of information on 'medication' that causes paranoid delusions, eh Taco ? *cough*cough*
In fact, if you'll check this message, you'll see that Microsoft already changed the link in this message in your browser....
Edible?
... and there was much rejoicing.

As long as they mailed those two nickles (one to me, one to my ISP) via First Class mail ($0.32), I'm fine with this!
