  1. The Good, The Bad, The Ugly on Judge Rules that Kazaa can be Sued · · Score: 5, Interesting

The Good: I downloaded well over 2000 mp3's and 10 movies with KazaaLite

The Bad: Kazaa is going down.

    The Ugly: Kazaa is spyware.

All things taken into account, hopefully the next p2p network won't have the spyware built in.

ANYWAY...I thought Kazaa was a self-supporting network, i.e. people act as super-nodes who hold a list of files for others to search, and there's no centralized server. What control does Sharman have over whether or not the Kazaa network is still around, sure, they can stop the downloads of the client, but if the client can also act as a server...meh, it's unstoppable!

  2. What .NET is? Why not .NORMAL? on Microsoft Drops .NET Name For Next Windows Server · · Score: 1

My question is, how did M$ think that by changing the name of their services to xyz.NET were they gonna get me to buy them? I mean, I use windows and word and all that, but unless they give me concrete features, I dont think I'll buy.

    AND

About .NET Framework; nobody ever knew what it was. I use PHP/MySQL and Apache/Linux; .NET purpoted to change my life, give me wings, and help me have children, but in the last 4 years, I still haven't seen a change in Jack Skizet.

    AND

    If that weren't bad enough, they went around mixing crap up;
    Passport (normal, dumb users) with
Framework (developers, highly intelligent, cream of the crop, smartest, biased...) with
XML (something that managers consider the next best thing to sliced bread).

    To business executives everywhere:
DO NOT ever make normal people learn what programmers do! It frightens and confuses them! Normal people don't need to be scarred like that!

    Anyway, [/rant].

  3. Re:yeah baby on Sendo vs. Microsoft: The Truth Comes Out · · Score: 1

"Microsoft [people] are not evil geniuses, they are incompetent bullies"

That must be why they brought the PC to every home in america (I sure didn't see UNIX doing that, nor Linux being that advanced at the point where windows was even acceptable to people.)

That must be why MS created Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), redefining the need for computers in the officeplace.

That must be why Bill Gates spent a while as the richest man on earth.

Given: MS is not a fair company.
Given: Most people here hate MS.
Presumed: MS is full of incompetent people.
    Proof: Above.
Conclusion: Just because you hate MS and it's not fair doesn't mean it's full of incompetent people. Wake up and smell the coffee. The Nazis did pretty well on their "mission" to exterminate Jews - but was Hitler dumb as a rock? Doubtful.

To all flamers: I don't support Hitler. I think he was horrible. You are a total idiot if you flame me over that.

Actually, I'd like to see America as a more socialist nation. Paid-for college education, maybe free health benefits - hell, we already pay the taxes, why not get something back for them?

At this point in my life, my government's only effect on me is that they take 24.1% of my paycheck and for that money, I get to run from the police when I get drunk at college parties. Woohoo!

  12. My Thoughts on William Shatner Replies · · Score: 1
Since we all know my thoughts are the most important here, I've created a whole thread for me.
Regret is the worst of human emotions. There is no going back with regret. There is no future with regret. Regret is not something I live with. If there is something I wished I hadn't done, I don't do it anymore or I forgive myself and try better. My life is my statement and I try to be true to myself and thusly to other people. Whatever my failings are, they are human and I try to perfect it each day.
How deep. This is probably the only useful part of the interview. Beyond that, Shatner seems a bit drifty and lighttoned - actually pretty good for Slashdot, considering we probably just bugged him and finally he said "Hell! OK! I'll do it, dammit!" Beyond that, all those people who say "duh, he's the important one, not you" are wrong - actors aren't quite as important as we make them out to be.
