Somehow I don't see mob-blogging as the 'new media' nor "Putting video cameras and high-speed Net connections in telephones, moves blogging into the streets."
I think that the media will remain the same, if not more powerful due to the vast quantity of information being provided to people; would you rather siphon through 100 people's random news (crap important to them but not you) vs. getting the quick and dirty (www.cnn.com, news.google.com) ?
mod parent up as funny, the first sentence got me rolling on the floor.
it's true that we can raise taxes (bad) and charge everyone (also bad) but at least that would be an equal solution, not the 'elite (money holders) get the best part of our society' which is based around lots of car traffic, so that would be a status symbol sort of thing.
what about the people that don't have internet, the poor mexican worker that drives his pickup to the construction site in the morning? we're going to put him in a slower lane just because he can't afford to drive in a faster lane?
this is all a drive towards a 'if you have the money you can do anything' society that I dislike a lot.
It's interesting to see what they censor. I went to FCPS schools in fairfax virginia, they censor out www.beretta.com but also pro-gun sites. Even more interesting is that they will not censor out gun control sites; it's deciding what kids see. I don't know how else I was effected, but an extreme (very!) pole of this could be whether or not maybe cnn.com were blocked as opposed to msn.com or any other news site.
at least this suit has gotten Linux mentioned in many places where it normally wouldn't be.
yes, now everyone that heard about linux through this case will connect linux with 'that os that you can be fined a shitload of money for using because (...insert random stupid sco reason here...)'
GREAT! WONDERFUL! Now EVERYBODY has a good impression of linux.
This is actually pretty cool, if you read the related articles, this guy who 'snatched' the domain has gotten in gunfights, has bounty-hunters on him, and is a fugitive.
Sounds like something from a crappy sci-fi film, but in real life!
and extending the 'crappy sci-fi movie' parrallell, you can see what a bad movie it would be...2 guys fighting over a porn site.
make sure to bring lots of cd's with copies of games on them - all the normals; counter-strike, UT, UT2k, quake, warcraft blah blah blah.
and someone to install for the kiddies that show up and dont know how to install software despite the fact that they're "the shit" when it comes to talking shit about how your computer sucks.
I'm 18 years old, I work 2 jobs. I'm a waiter at a restauraunt where I'm good at what I do so I make $150 every nite. My other job is at Quiznos. All total I'll probably make $5000 this summer. I'm not spoiled. I'm working with my own 2 hands.
If SCO was really out to be honest, they'd show us the code. I, myself, want to see these 80 lines of code, because it could be anything! I also want to see where it came from; I want to be able to go to my/src/ directory and see the same 80 lines of code as they tell me were plaigarised
I'm happy with the way TV is. I look to the internet for some of my news, tv for some, paper for some, watch a bit of TV, enjoy movies and the sexual inuendo that saturates our society (I 3 Boobies) and am a happy, ignorant clam.
Oh, btw, and you 'i dont listen to radio/watch tv so i dont care' folks are just missing out on the magazine/newspaper/website side of things here.
1. Do you know how to drive an aircraft carrier? I don't think it has merely a gas/brake/steering wheel. 2. Which country was going to let you bring that monstrosity into their port again...? 3. Don't these things require a crew of 1000's? Or at least 100 people I'd imagine, more if something goes wrong! 4. It costs me $20 to fill my car up at the gas station...dear god, I don't even want to think of this!!!
But beyond that, a cool purchase to be sure. It would be even funnier if it were on ebay.
Just when I buy a frigging Zire, they go and change it all! I admit it guys, it's my fault. Whenever I buy anything, it gets discontinued or jacked up.
Seriously, this is stupid. This is like people not being allowed to make 7.62mm bullets anymore because they might fit in an AK-47.
What Lexmark doesn't realize is that if there's lots of cheap toner cartridges for their printer, the educated buyer will buy their printer over others with the realization that it's upkeep costs will be lower.
What I think really happened was a 12 year old kid hacked the Pentagon computers again and wanted to use all that technology to make some money, BUT at the same time, be patriotic. So what'd he do? Spam. He's getting 5 cents a click on the "Defect to USA" and "Fuck Saddam" pages AND he's dicking with Iraq.

ick, very confusing post.

just interesting.
Hey, I can stop pirating apps then!

hence the *crappy* part :)
I'm somewhat dissapointed that /. didn't provide a direct hyperlink to the site in question on the main page...

Who's smoking crack here? There's no way to calculate how many times I downloaded Bryce off Kazaa or something like that, piracy is un-measurable!
This is known as an obsesession.

As always, I must present the downside:

To get in on this conference call, they want: 1. Name (First & Last) 2. Telephone # 3. Company And no privacy policy either...hmmmm....
OH but no! SCO owns linux!
Maybe Microsoft will pad it's sections protecting the users so that their percentage of "protecting users" goes up. Wouldn't that be interesting?

I'm pretty confident Bill Gates coded this part of the kernel secretly...
Mod Parent Up for hilariousness of truthfullness.
Sorry, that's already jacked up. But I did just install Mandrake!

STUPID LEXMARK! GO JOIN MICROSOFT!
Nyeh, so anyway...
