The same reason that it is ok for the US to attack Iraq because they might attack someone someday. Might makes right.
I think that my sig applies in this case.
Half the people I know don't use credit cards or checks when they buy stuff. And probably half of those people use money orders to pay their bills. I guess 25% of the people I know are suspicious. Maybe I should start watching my back.
And if we were to only check the people that never use those things, don't you think that terrorists (or anyone else that cared to) would realize that and start using them for most transactions?
Seriously, does the government not think that terrorists are smart enough to pay with cash whenever they are doing anything that might get them caught? Or does it expect us to believe that the real reason for building the database is to catch terrorists? Either our government is retarded or it thinks we are. And I'm pretty sure I know the correct answer.
The problem is that they are not really competing with google, just slapping a new skin on it and attempting to profit. It doesn't motivate google to make any advances.
I don't know if it is feasible at a movie theatre level, but I think we may see something like this in the future with DVDs.
amen

That's great! Mind if I steal that and use it later?

How can it trigger anything when they have no way of identifying who paid with the cash?
