Can anyone imagine the bandwidth that AOL is "sending out" with all their worthless CDs. I mean I'm getting about 600megs a day from them. Deliver a batch to Office Depot with a good 1000 CDs and that's some really massive bandwidth.
To create a poker AI you just have to figure out what the odds are of getting something after your first hand. Then based on odds the computer will decide which cards to get rid of and which to go for. This will typically result in the computer not going for the long shot royal flush and instead going for the safer full house which is more likely to happen.
A computer theoretically could be as good or even better than the average human at poker. It is able to calculate the odds of winning and is therefore able to make the best choice possible.
What would be really amazing would be if the computer was able to calculate based on how many cards other players turn in and adjust itself as neccesary.
Can you imagine having to try to look at the computer and imagine if it is bluffing? Talk about poker face...
I'd be interested in seeing FF2 and FF3 (US Numbers as released for the SNES) released for the GBA. I'm sure the GBA hardware could handle it and these were great games that would be perfect for those long car or airplane rides. I know that the battery in my old SNES cartridges has long died as it loses the save game every time I restart:(
I am not sure about many other Universities around the country... but electricity for some universities is purchased in blocks. Basically this means that it costs just about as much to turn all the lights off in labor as the added cost of just leaving them on all the time.
I wonder if energy costs for the average consumer decrease then might we see more of this type of thing in the American household. Longer lasting lights would also add to this happening.
I've spent the night on the USS Alabama. A truly rewarding experience if you have a group to do it. They only allow one-sex (read all male or all female) but check into it. No food is included but you can tour the ship all night long. Just about everything is open. The gun turrets are amazing to see. Look inside for many spray painted pictures.
Well... AGP + Onboard Video does NOT equal two monitors. On just about every motherboard I've seen the AGP and the Onboard use the same bus therefore you cannot run video out of each at the same try. An example would be the Epox 4G4a+
One of my friends tried this with a Geforce 2 + Onboard and it will only initialize one at a time. It cannot use both at once.
Great... this opens up a whole new world of wireless matchmaking. Guess the "Microsoft Online Matchmaking" is going to lose some customers if this every turns up. And some of us slashdot readers might actually find that one female slashdot reader out there via wireless =P
For those interested in a text-only browser to show what people see minus all the nice formatting of tables and such... check out
http://lynx.browser.org/ It is one of the most popular text-only browsers out there. Takes a little while to learn how to use though:) See how slashdot looks in it for a good laugh

Scary that some people seemed to use their first and last names for their usernames on Kazaa... example: leahpate@Kazaa anthonybotz@Kazaa

The scary part is... I think my parents own a few of the items on this list =\
