Compare that to the arguments on Slashdot against patenting algoritmes. As a paperclip is basically a algorithme to deform a piece of metal to some useful.

Doesn't the guy who invented the paperclip deserve some money? If so why don't software developers that invent some algorithme?

I think prison authorithies should notice who likes to rape the same sex (in woman prisons there is also rape) and put those people on the same department.

If people reject to this then the judges verdict should be and officially recorded (I know Amenesty International would like that): "I verdict you to x years in prison and possible rapes (torture).

Mammals were the size of mice at those days. And mice tend to feed on small plants and insects. And insects will defently survive a lot of things as people also think that the first land dwelling animals were insects even before land based plants, trees or fish. Also a lot of insects only need to eat twice a year.

So the mammals could survive. Reptiles are cold blooded and like insects don't need a lot of food. And perhaps only the smaller once survived and they grew that what you are used now. As Elephants used to be little rat like creatures once.

But what about birds? I think because they could fly (move fast from one area to another), were small and like dino's were hot blooded. They survived.

I saw once this docu that actually the age we are in now can be called the age of the birds. As they are everywhere even in cities were only humans and rats can survive.

I doubt your price estimates are correct as top of line VIA mini itx boards are cheaper then that what you quoted.

    From the mini itx site:
Cheapest casing + CL10000 motherboard (at 1Ghz but has two LAN's) + 512MB (is max in this config) + 160 GB HD (you'd be better of with a third party sold HD here)
    ---+
    519.10 or 358.00

However you can save a lot of money by buying your hd, ram and casing somewhere else. Please remember about the story about the first google servers. They don't need to look good just work. (The first google servers were build from Lego blocks)

However I would think the first generation VIA mini itx boards (those at 500 Mhz) would be very useful for specific uses. Like for web hosting companies.

A lot of websites/projects like those on geocities, Lycos, email accounts, and even source forge start with a great goal but at the end they only get maybe 5 hits a month and are updated once every 6 months, if they are at all.

Well have them automagically moved to a cheapo VIA mini itx server. When the traffics gets hot then move "automagically" them to some high-end and energy hungry server. The total price would be for such a complete system (256MB, 80GB, Fanless, casing and other things) 329.15. However a $200 wallmart PC should be able to handle those sites also very well. But now energy consumption of a VIA vs $200 PC?!

The Brazilian rainforest has never been that dense and tree's have never grown that high. This all due to more CO2 on the air, which algea, plants and tree's depend on.

So the green house has a side benifit. But as an other poster said it's not about save the nature but save the human as nature WILL adept! As the denser rainforests have proven. So there will be more deserts but that mean also more plants that consume less water. And insects that can live of them and roadents that life of those.
