  1. damn emails....... on The Tyranny of Email · · Score: 0

i use email to communicate with just about everyone. i happen to work for a cellular phone carrier, and get free phone service, but i only use about 80 minutes a month because of that bane, email.

even at home, i use email to communicate with my roommate (who would be about 10 feet away from me in another room). im? no way, too convenient.

i do not pay for a landline at home, and probably never will. if i leave my job, and lose my free phone svc, i will simply not have a phone. no need for one when i have a cable connection and email.

i've even managed to pay most of my bills through email.

sometimes i wonder if i really exist, or if i'm magnetic 1's and 0's on a platter.

i'm not sure what crack you're smoking, but warcraft 3 is a chump of a game. played it on my athlon 2000 w/ a geforce 3 ti200, no crashes, ran quite smoothly.

you shouldn't generalize a problem you have as a problem everyone will have. i've never heard of warcraft having problems with athlons, and have never experienced it. the website for warcraft says nothiing about it.

lay off the crack, and learn a bit more about computers.

i'm not sure exactly what you did, but i run mozilla on xp pro sp1. i did the exact same thing you described (using program access and defaults to set ie back to default), and it did not do as you described. not even close, so you must've done something else, as well. also, microsoft is not allowed to provide java anymore. this is as a result of the "anti-trust" lawsuit.

i almost forgot one thing...... how exactly do you account for hundred, thousands of canadians seeking healthcare in the united states every week? that, is not a myth. if the system works so well, why are they here?

well, i'm happy to hear that with persistence, you were able to get medical care you need. however, i prefer to get that medical care right away, without worrying about any of the above factors. with my hmo (i pay 8.17 per month), i'm able to see any choice of over 500 doctors within a 50 mile radius of where i live, immediately. the 8.17 per month is a hell of a lot less than the tax markup socialized healthcare would cost. there are a lot of reasons socialized healthcare doesn't work as well as a capitalist one, but this is the wrong topic.

i look to canada, and see how terrible their system is. sure, everyone is covered, but what good is it if you must wait over a year simply for an eye exam??!! at least with an hmo, i get immediate healthcare, even if it does cost an arm and a leg, at least i won't die waiting to see a doctor (that is if i can still see at that point. remember, i'm still waiting to see the optomitrist!)

so are you saying that the library should have access for this service, even though the business has not been offered enough compensation for the service?? next time you speak with your cable provider, tell them you want your service for half price. now, as nice as that would be, it simply wouldn't happen. why should you expect a company to lower their rates 'just because'?

  15. Re:No kidding on Democracy in the Dark? · · Score: 1

hmm, well appearantly not enough for it to recoup costs for the company. the government (state, federal, and local) must purchase goods and services at the same rate we do unless the company is WILLING to sell for less. they are not obligated to. if the library really wanted this service, they'd push the city council for a small addition to the local sales tax to pay for it.

the person that wrote that article is of the same state of mind as fools that want socialized healthcare.

fortunately, being an american means you can ignore this stuff. and that's exactly what is happening. ignorance is bliss, right? there may be too much truth in that. to truly understand what is happening here, you need to go back to ancient rome. if you're familiar with the term "bread and circuses", keep reading...... the problem is not the politicians, not the system of government, not the two party system, not the corporations, but the people. when people are happy, well fed, and entertained, they are oblivious to the world around them. why shouldn't they? it doesn't exactly directly affect them in their eyes. remember, ignorance is bliss, right? the key is education of the public, but how do we educate them when they don't care? when that problem is solved, then so will the political problems.
