I've been using a laptop and VNC http://www.realvnc.com/ to access my Windows boxes and ssh for my Linux boxes for quite some time now and it has worked well for me. The reason I use VNC rather than Remote Desktop is that it is cross-platform and there are VNC servers for Mac OS X and Linux as well, so I only need one client to connect to all my machines. The other reason is VNC is open-source.
Granted, this doesn't help much on a machine that fails to boot far enough to enable netorking and launch the server. But other than that it works very well.
Personally, I'd rather have juries believe in the forensic sciences, even if they are exaggerated in their portrayal on television... This is a much better state of affairs than having juries exhibiting characteristics of the OJ syndrome where they totally discount science and instead believe "if it doesn't fit they must aquit."
There hasn't been a terrorist attack since 9/11, and like a moron swatting hornet's nest chances are this will change.
The reason there haven't been any major terrorist attacks here in the US since 9/11 is because we are actively disrupting cells and groups.
Are you so naiive to think that if we immediately pulled out of Afghanistan and Iraq, brought our troops home, that things would stabilize over there and the terrorists would cease all of their plotting against us?
People need to get this through their heads: These terrorist groups want to wipe us from the face of the earth no matter where our troops are. They want to see you and your family die a horrible death. If we don't take the battle to them, they will bring it to us. Remember that video of Osama and his cronies sitting around laughing and joking about the two towers collapsing? If we pulled all our troops back, those guys would be high-fiving and doing back flips with joy. They would be able to bring all of their money, brain-washed followers, and evil plans to bear on the continental US.
As it is now, they are back on their heels and scrambling for cover. We need to keep it that way.
The Army should be there to protect us.
The Army is out playing world police.
If by police you mean trying to make the world a safer and more secure place, then yes, that is exactly what they are doing.
With all the effort placed in surviving the crash, why not avoid it altogether?
Have a compressed air charge instantly deploy a canopy (rather than that ridiculous airbag) that lifts the rider into the air, allowing him to pass over the impending collision.
Keep in mind, this saftey device would only work for high-speed collision scenarios. Riders should also be mindful not to crash near any power lines (unless, of course, they are wearing their rubberized anti-electrocution suit with rocket-fired grounding line).

For Windows (and many other OS's for that matter) you can always turn to the National Software Reference Library (NSRL) put out by NIST.
You can get an anual subscription, with quarterly updates, for $90. Once you have it, though, it can be freely distributed.
