Except that the open-source drivers are more functional than the fglrx drivers in everything except raw 3D speed. Really... compiz works better, video overlays, everything except gaming. And the gaming isn't bad, especially given recent updates. Why not try one of the Fedora 12 live CD's and see if they perform alright? Especially the games spin: http://spins.fedoraproject.org/games/
Stop using XP. Crossfire is perfectly solid on Vista and Windows 7. You're expecting brand-new technology to work perfectly on an 8 year old OS, one that is two versions out of date? Really?
It's DX10.1, not just DX10. That's the big deal. And it's not really THAT big of a deal since ATI has had DX10.1 since what... the 3000 series? 2006/2007 era?
If you run operating systems other than Windows, ATI should be the only choice you make. They're actually committing to open-source drivers, and delivering. It'll probably be in the next round of Linux distros that open-source Radeon drivers will be fully working. Right now the Fedora Core 12 release has open-source Radeon 2xxx and later support. Reports are that it's working quite well.
Most of the time when I've had a slight hiss with anything it's due to noisy connections or a bad amplifier, not usually mp3 artifacts. mp3 artifacts usually manifest as muddiness in my experience.
The problem is when people buy shit like a $500 ethernet cable because it's somehow better. It's a disconnect from reality and common sense. They're entitled to spend their 3 months of salary on overpriced shit with magical powers, but the parent is just as entitled to call them what they are, which is idiots.

No more so than Windows mobile, and at least you can get the source code for Android.
Only at the county level in Florida? Luxury. It's at the city level here in the Denver area. You buy something that's priced at $2.99 in the Target in Westminster and it's a different total than the same thing priced at $2.99 at the Target just 3 miles away.
Naah. The complainers just don't like change, or expect something that's not there. Same kind of thing as people moving from Windows to Linux. "Why can't I just download Photoshop and install it? Linux sucks!" They just aren't ready for a shift in thinking.
The apps weren't there because the API was new. You're playing both sides of the fence. You claim to have understood what the KDE 4.0 meant, but you then bitch about the apps not being complete despite those features depending on significant redevelopment in light of the new API's and such in KDE4. I mean, really... the apps weren't/aren't complete because they changed all the underpinnings from 3.5, and the app developers have been working to reimplement many things.
Who needs a VM? Wine handles at least StarCraft and Diablo beautifully. I don't have a high enough res screen to test it out here, but I'd bet that you can set a virtual desktop size for Wine to 1280x960 and then just run StarCraft full-screen in the virtual desktop for Wine. Just use winecfg to set that up.
Yet you could still download it, or get it through mail-order, or whatever. Just because it's unpopular doesn't mean it's illegal or should be banned. Russia may legally allow censorship, but that doesn't make it right. Somalia legally allows stoning... does that mean we should just shrug our shoulders and say "Well, that's what their laws say"?
Try reading up on what boycott means. It means exactly what you said... don't buy their products. I also tell people WHY I don't (like in my original post), which is "coercion", but the fact remains that you are boycotting the NFL as much as I am.
I'm not "entitled" to top-quality entertainment. But what I (and many others) see is a complete disconnect between the cost to produce and the cost to buy. This is because of the laws that are enacted (copyright) that unfairly tilt the economy in favor of the industry that controls entertainment and therefore, culture. It's a distortion of the market. Living wages, welfare and universal health care are also distortions of the market... they prop up the people who are not contributing to society from the fruits of the people who are. That's not to say that those are bad things to do, I'm just pointing out that the viewpoints are compatible when you're looking at it from a libertarian standpoint. Both are instances of the government legislating the benefit of one person at the expense of another. And when you factor in the abuses of emergency rooms, welfare and "living wage" rates driving businesses into bankruptcy when applied improperly, there's an understandable backlash against funding more of the same.
And if you made the same game except shooting innocent Americans? Wait... nothing would happen. Protests, sure, but there would be no banning of the game here in the US.
Or should we ban books where they talk about the atrocities the Russians committed in wartime? Or Americans? Where does it end when you start regulating "distasteful" content?
You can play as a terrorist in the game. How is that different? Sure, you can say it's distasteful and protest it. But stopping sale of it by the government is just a symptom of an authoritarian government.
Hell, there are even other games specifically developed where you can play as a terrorist the whole time. I see no limitations on them.
When you're delivering stuff to people paying you, versus just dicking around, I think he's right. There is no substitute for proper design, instead of just "does it pass the tests?". I can write code that passes all tests, but won't work outside of those. Hell, just a lookup table instead of actually computing results would pass the tests.
The problem is that while money does move around the industry, most of it goes into profits of the labels, never to be seen again. There are costs with producing albums, but those costs are recouped and then profits on top of it without ever paying the artists anything other than their advance (and sometimes charging them more) due to accounting tricks.
And that's how it should be. I boycott all pro sports teams, as their ticket prices are rapacious and the product is relative shit, especially compared to minor-league teams. But they still make money hand over fist.
Boys pretend that they ARE the GI. Joes or the army men, or the generals. Girls take care of their dolls as a separate entity. Big difference in the style of play, even if the object itself is the same. I assume you were never a little boy, or if you were, you completely forgot what it was like?

How do you get app developers to start developing to the new version if you don't mark it as a release and a stable API?
The apps weren't there because the API was new. You're playing both sides of the fence. I suppose you're expecting the parent to defer to your expertise, right?
Personally, I think any of these displays are affordable. All of them come with HDMI input, which is fine for PCs.

Just because they deliver slightly more than BlueHippo did doesn't make them any less of a scam.

Incompetents or liars, that's Fox News, take your pick.
There's no picking needed. It's liars, no questions asked.
