That shit should be punished. But the way things are set up now, most kids have the power in the classroom. Teachers cannot do anything meaningful to give their students repercussions from their actions. And if effect doesn't follow cause, how in the hell can you learn? You can't fail students, hold them back grades, give them detention, anything without being sued.
Let's see... I present some media for someone to download. How is it in any way NOT obvious to include some statistics on the media in order for the user to be informed? File sizes have been presented with downloads since the dawn of networking. Including extra metadata is a trivial progression.
You do realize what you said is completely stupid, right? Entertainment is entertainment... how is reading a book ANY more productive than watching TV or playing a video game? Hell, at least with video games you're practicing hand-eye coordination.
Seconded. I actually use T-Mobile as my business phone. I travel all over with it... I even got a decent data feed while driving up in Alaska, some semi-remote parts between Anchorage and Fairbanks. Even though our company gets me an 8% discount on AT&T service, I'm not switching because T-Mobile has been so good to me.
Many of the companies are moving to prorating the termination fee, too. And I know that with T-Mobile you can use any old phone you want. I bought a Motorola RAZR for when I do things where my phone might get damaged/wet (I don't want to buy a new Blackberry...), and I just pop my SIM in there. But they don't have great service outside of major metro areas.
I've seen plenty of gas stations where one side of the street has gas $0.03 or more cheaper than the other side. The thing is, the cheaper side gets much less traffic past it, it's harder to actually access the station going the directions that most traffic goes in those intersections.
Most of them won't absolutely require a 2-year contract. You just have to buy the phone outright instead (at least that's how it is with T-Mobile). They amortize the phone subsidy over the life of your 2-year contract. The thing is, most people want the 2 year contract because they don't want to drop $500 on the phone right out of pocket. You may be different... you can always ask your carrier. Hell, buy a used Blackberry off of Craigslist and T-Mobile will give you a SIM to drop in it, no long term contract required.
I'll only ride your ass if you aren't passing the person next to you, or if you don't get over when you have a chance. But even then, there's nobody in the world that can react fast enough to someone slamming on the brakes from tailgating distance, and the accident would probably end up being my fault, so I don't do it often. I think most of us (90% or more) understand this and drive that way. It only takes a few fucknuggets to screw it up for everyone else, though.
Colorado (howdy neighbor!) just passed a law that allows people not pulling over in those situations to be ticketed. Shame that it only applies to 55-65MPH roads though. The Interstates are still fair game for idiots/assholes.
Speaking of which, I do think that there's a MAJOR difference between an opportunistic driver and an asshole driver. I don't mind people passing on the right. I do mind them slowing down when they get just past your front bumper when they pass you, or they just speed up to match your speed as you pass them.
The coffee shop can always ask them to leave. It's not against the law to kick people out who are impeding your business. If it were, we could all just go down to Wal-Mart and skateboard the aisles all day.
Ehh... we've canceled a LOT of debt to other countries. If creditors come calling who've previously benefited from our generosity, I don't think I'd have a problem with telling them to fuck off.
Your problem is that you define it as a singular "crew". There are different levels of frustration and price points that every person will put up with. DRM is a killer for most of my game purchases, as well as the $50-$60 price points. If games were $20 or so, I'd be more willing to buy them even if they sucked. At this price, I'm not gonna pay unless I'm damn sure I'm going to like it. Other people, it may be $40 as the price point. Or just a less onerous DRM. Maybe it needs to work on Linux, so they crack the game because the DRM is the only thing preventing that. My point is that painting everyone that pirates games with a broad brush is a surefire way to fail in addressing the issue.
Conversely, he can carry 15 somethings the size of a cigarrette pack with him exceedingly easily where that would be untenable before, especially given power requirements.
That is real (as in king, not as in extant) property, which is a fairly different beast than normal property rights. It has different rules because of the physical limitations of the earth. Intellectual "property" on the other hand is an entirely artificial property. The ONLY reason it exists is due to copyright, a government-backed monopoly on that idea.
What problems don't biofuels solve? Sure, they don't solve smog. But the do solve the carbon problem. Now we just take it out of the atmosphere (with plants being the "conversion system", essentially a solar carbon converter), and then burn it and put it back in the atmosphere. Et voila! The carbon cycle!

But you told your coworkers. This guy is AWOL. That's the difference.

That's what I was referring to ;)
64bit programs are still "bastard children" under Windows, because they're trying to keep everything as backwards compatible as possible.
So you seize on that, yet still don't recognize that an electronic text file is in no way a replacement for a video game?

In some places, lane splitting is legal.
I'm an alumni ;) Got my own member in training now. Gonna be quite a few years before he's ready, though... he's just starting to crawl

Science is just one target. I mean, didn't you know that chickens are just feathery jews?

At least, I doubt the "pirates" actually include that bit :)
I've heard it from a... uhhh... "friend".. that they never include any of that crap ;)
I haven't been impressed with their PC games, but damned if the Raving Rabbids titles on the Wii aren't fun
