    Actually, pretty much everything will play just fine on the xbox these days, no transcoding needed. The PS3 is the one that I'm having trouble with.

    UPnP is alright for streaming, I quite like it though of course MS has done the old embrace/extend trick.

    No, they didn't build electric automata out of scrap on a farm, they dabbled in mathematical and theoretical understanding of physical phenomena and made practical use of it. Whole different kettle of fish.

    I could make his automata, I don't have the inclination (which is what makes him special), but he did nothing like the original post said - make advances in robotics based on feedback controllers, balance, cybernetics etc.

    He built walking machines, which people have been doing since victorian times.

    You are the moron, not only for having no ability to read what I've said in previous posts, but also for thinking that everyone that can weld two things together in a shed is the next tesla.

    Exactly, nothing to do with the function of the phone, so not subject to the same laws.

    I find a hell of a lot of advertising either offensive or dishonest, the more of it that gets struck down the better.

    BTW, I think this guy is cool and I love his robots, it's just that I also think the post I replied to is from a moron.

    No, this guy's robot collection is damn cool, sorry if I gave the impression I wasn't impressed!

    What I wasn't impressed by was the lack of insight of the post I replied to. He's not some sort of robotics Professor, he's a guy that's built some ace robots out of scrap.

    I love these sorts of crackpots, but let's not pretend he's done any cutting edge engineering here, 'kay?

    Look at the picture. His Rickshaw-bot is mechanical and he has a steering wheel.

    It's not a complex task he has solved there. Stability is already present (2 wheels at the back, two legs at the front),

    Sensors? Closed-loop feedback?

    Lol. more like a few electric motors and some gears.

    I've managed to get it to talk to ushare, though gmediastreamer or mediatomb can transcode and might be better if you have more processing power and RAM than my media server (266MHz/32MB).

    The Xbox 360 has been able to do HD out of the box, it just doesn't have a media drive for it.

    Streaming the content over a network though, that's fine.

    Or just use the vanilla Xbox360 to stream video from your linux server by using ushare, mediatomb or gmediastreamer.

    Works a charm, even though my linux server is a 266MHz ARM box (NSLU2) with a 320GB disk attached. It can torrent at the same time.

    I've managed to use my own kit with it, I know some stuff doesn't work, but my Netgear DG-834N (Wireless N, not gigabit though) works fine.

    Had to google fairly extensively to find setup instructions, they use different settings to the ones I was used to from other ISPs, but it works great. Slightly better than their kit even.

    Try that in a software company and wait for the open rebellion. Hell, try it most places and watch the IT budget rocket as people waste the IT department's time getting special permission for various things.

    An IT department that's so inflexible as to disallow user to install software is an IT department that's not meeting the needs of the business.

    24Mbps, static IP address, 19 quid a month.

    Sure, due to line quality I only get about 11-14Mbps, but that's ok.

    They don't seem to throttle at all, torrenting stuff is nice and fast, as are my frequent OS downloads/net installs. No caps either AFAICT.

    IMHO, I should (easily and without any charge) be able to sell my add-ons too.

    Sure they only exist in electronic form, but when I'm finished with them and finished with the game, I should be able to sell all of it.

    Otherwise we get back to the situation of publishers selling half a game and then loads of DLC.

    Yes, when they signed the various treaties they gave away the right to make french laws that contradict EU law. Like a state joining the US. Exactly the same. Not only was this done willingly, but the french actually lead the charge.

    This is exactly what the EU is for. Why is it scary to you that it is doing its job? Is it scary to you that Texas can be overridden by the fedral government of the US? Whilst the EU is considerably less of a state than the USA, it has some resemblance to one and the countries involved willing ceded power to create a central government. Especially the French.

    Countries can't make laws contradicting treaties they've signed up to, or laws they've helped bring into being across the whole EU.

    What exactly is the problem with this? It's the EU doing what it was supposed to do.

    Depends on the service.

    If you're in the business of selling support contracts you need a fine balance between customers thinking they need support but also keeping actual support calls to a minimum, because the moment you actually get a call then your profit margin is affected.
