Whoever marked this post as Troll is just jealous.
I must have an indestructable one too - no scratches that are visible without close inspection - so yah boo sucks to you MWASN (Moderator with a scratchy Nano.).
I take over five hundred camera bodies with me on a shoot, and several thousand lenses. I also have sixteen different vehicles, each filled with camera gear, in case car thieves are at large in the area.
I also recently started hauling a camera store to every shoot, complete with staff, and I'm working on the logistics of airlifting a giant warehouse full of photographic equipment to my more critical shoots.
I actually signed up for a Needle Therapy study for the UW Dental School. I figured I was freaked out about injections in te mouth enough to be agood subject, yet not so bad that I wouldn't show up for any of the tests.
Needless (sorry) to say, the first few visits were pretty horrific, watching people have injections etc then habong to talk about it. But the surprising thing was when I was shown how bendy the actual needle is, when I actually flexed it against my finger and saw how bendy this thing really was, my fears evaporated. Simple as that.
Turns out I was one of those people who is afraid it would snap off in my gum, but once I realized that was a very small propability my fears went away.
Being taught how to breathe slowly and not think about the injection also helped, as well as asking the Dentist to make sure the gel is left on the gum for a full minute or two to take away the initial pinprick feeling.
"The iPod should RECORD video from a DV camera!! those tiny drives just need to sustain the datarate, my 1st gen, is too small, but it could record video thru the powerbook.
Apple keeps misunderstanding a significant number of requests a video ipod as a player. Many of us in the video world have been asking to RECORD video for years now, and just get filed under "video ipod" in their requests database.
It could change the video camera market, where the iPod becomes the new tape format. (or similar sized firewire drives) There is already a mess of various devices that filled in, but they are not standard, and the camera vendors are going to expensive incompatible hard drive setups."
Great post (I modded you up the best I could:-)
I dream of the day I can plug a drive containing my footage for the day into a PC, edit directly from it in Final Cut or whatever, export a self contained file ready for encoding and erase the drive ready for the next day.
Currently I have to import everything in real-time from my miniDV tape before I can start doing anything. That's real time lost.
"....and possibly we'll see a new high-end Nano (6 or 8G?), with some price adjustments across the board."
No way. Apple would not release a higher capacity Nano only weeks after releasing the existing versions. It would piss everyone with a 2 or 4 gig version off so bad they'd be ripping the metal off the front of their local Apple Stores demanding free upgrades!
I've had my Nano for a week now and there are no mystery scratches appearing on its surface, but then again I keep mine wrapped in a lens cleaning cloth.
As soon as my Invisible Shield shows up though, I'll be able to keep it in the same pocket as my grit, rough diamonds and emery boards.
I'm so glad the Playsforsure campaign is finally biting Microsoft and all its WMV compatible chums in the ass.
Apple has never made a big deal about its DRM not being able to play on Windows Media compatible players (for obvious reasons), yet Microsoft - with the usual giant helping of arrogance - did exactly the opposite by gathering everyone but Apple together and running this campaign.
I'm actually surprised they're still running it because that little Playsforsure sticker is fast becoming the kiss of death when it comes to choosing a media player!
"In 2055, after the US government falls, and once north america is thrown into anarchy, using late-90's technology, a personal generator or solar cell, I should still be able to record and play an ogg vorbis file, using free software developed running on hardware built in the late-90's."
OK, you got me. Out goes the iPod Nano, I'm gonna get me an iZak
I live in Seattle and have never heard of these guys, but I'll be at their next show.
I'm a few songs into the album and really liking it.
There's not that much difference between selling an album for $10 and giving it away for free actually.
Think of a record label as a marketing company. The $10 that someone pays for an album is eaten up by the investment the marketing company made to sell the album in the first place, so giving it away for free means no (or very little) marketing money needing to be recouped.
And if you don't like it, you can email the link to someone who you think will like it, or just trash it. End of problem.
If you do like it the chances are that most of your friends will like it too.
For around $20 you can get a years subscription to Wired. An amazing value. Pick up a copy next time you're at Safeways and fill out one of the blindingly bright yellow or orange subscription thingies:-)

Just curious. Do you have any photos of you poking that paperclip in the rest hole?
Most parents are used to buying the cheapest crappiest technology known to mankind at this point. They'll spend hours each week closing error messages, restarting constantly and working around virus alert windows that they can't close. So don't expect much research into the finer points of HD-DVD over Blu-Ray before making a purchase decision. They'll just grab whatever Costco is selling the cheapest as usual.
There should be an equation similar to Moore's law which determines how technological advances facilitate the distribution and consumption of porn.
How about Hill's law (as in Benny):
Hill's Law
(hillz lâ) (n.) The observation made by Benny Hill (RIP), co-founder of Hill's Angels, that the number of porn images that could be downloaded in one sitting had doubled every day since the internet was invented by Al Gore. Hill predicted that this trend would continue for the foreseeable future. In subsequent years, the pace slowed down a bit, but porn downloads still doubled approximately every 18 days, and this is the current definition of Hill's Law, which Hill himself has blessed. Most experts, including Hill himself, expect Hill's Law to hold for at least another two very tiring decades.

There go the free pron thumbnails!

I considered buying one the last time I was at Fry's, but took one look at the format of the movie "disks" and decided against it.
They looked way too proprietary for my liking.
...and that's assuming 6 or 8 gig flash media even exists?

Iraq+iPod=Scratches
You were lucky. I tried to buy some air from NASA the other day but they said they didn't have any!

I wonder how long it took between you clicking Submit and all your personal information arriving via FAX at your local FBI office?

Now now people - lets not get into a war over this.
"You can especially notice it in scenes where much of the screen is dark."
Which is about 90% of CG intensive scenes, so the animators don't have to waste time working on anything that isn't directly related to the action.

Just stay away from the HD close-up's is all I ask!
"Seriously, consumeres have NO stomach for another format war."
The consumers this particular war will be fought over haven't been in a format war before.
VHS, the "winner" of a particularily big tussle isn't even on the shelves at my local movie rental store!

While you're at it, 56 Mbits/sec would be ideal.
