At ay place of work, we have a site that is prone to having other sites deep link to the content. We have two workarounds for this.
1) Server side script which checks the refering URL against the real domain name. If the request is from www.domain.com show the page; if not then redirect to site home page.
2) Javascript: add a "jump-out" of frames option. This is a way to remove the frameset, and present your info in 100% of the browser. We have found that people were more app to drop the "other guys" frameset and stick with our content 100%.
Some might view deep linking as a problem, but there are many ways to workaround the actions of others on the internet.
People want information to be free, and that's the crux of the problem. As soon as capitalism returns to its roots and begins giving people what they want (in order to make more money, of course), then we'll see a resolution to this problem.
This is untrue. We need to demand free information. All revolutions start some where. People need to "Think Globally, Act Locally."
All revolutions start somewhere; all revolutions start small.
Open access to information will not come overnight.
The new software isn't likely to erode all copyright protections immediately or provide unrestricted cover for smut. Counteroffensives will surely be launched, and there are smart programmers on all sides in this.
This is totally the best part of the whole piece. It promises us that we will always have a job. We just need to choose which side of the border we stand on. Hopefully we can stand firmly on the side that assures us freedom of information.
I wad sysadmin privledge in high school. It was a Novell 3.x box. When the authorities at a school give a student this kind of "power," the students really resect the use of computers, instead of abusing them. It is the trust schools build with there computer users that makes computers in the classroom work.
The other site Clemson banned was funphone.com. Well, as it turns out that site doesn't even offer free LD. The site is a hoax, a leftover April Fools joke. I guess the sysadmins/administration at Clemson never did their homework.
A friend sent this to me. The Authentic Pets.com Sock Puppet Used in Super Bowl Ad is up for grabs. As of the time of this writing is is going for $14,600.00. Now that is a start to re-coop the costs of the commercial.
A new denial-of-service tool known as Tribe FloodNet 2K was released; a weakness in certain versions of MacOS allows intruders to use MacOS 9 as a "traffic amplifier."
there are enough problems with the current system. adding an internet based voting option would compound the current problems with the voting process. although, it would make it easier to vote, maybe it would make it too easy.

At times I was not sure, if i was watching Jim Carrey or watching Jim Carrey playing the role of Kaufman.

Nerds are just geeks in denial!
Why did you go with RedHat instead of another distribution?
On one side we've got jerry, elaine, kramer, newman, george, bubbleboy, yadayada.
On another side there's mario, pitfall, frogger, qbert, digdug.
