One word "commercials"... I wonder how much money Ricky Martin or Britney Spears got for doing the Pepsi commercials. I suppose thats one way of supplementing their incomes....
On the other side of the coin.. how many artists actually do a lot of commercials?? I am sure there is a rather large majority who do not get the lucrative sponorship deals.
To me this is not a story about AOl making seven Million dollars.. which probably is a drop in the bucket for them. But more importantly its the Spammers losing 7 million dollars.
Now they have to be more careful, and spend more money to cover there tracks up, which will indicates that the cost of every piece of spam will increase. Making their customers find alternate means of advertising.
so these 7 million dollars is an indication that there will be a shift in power. Because this hits them (the spammers) where it hurts.. in the wallet...
Well sadly a lot of the games been created for the PC are not been ported to Linux on a decent time frame.... (read NWN - but I love bio ware so all love to them:p)
Therefore people will continue to use Windows to play there computer games.
But that problem will plague consoles as well.. I REFUSE to play my Counterstrike on a damn console... the mouse is soo much cooler than the... oh shit the bomb went off.... got to go back
Its actually called publicity.. or whats known as free advertising. And I think publicity if done right is good for not only the company doing it but also the customer as well. (ie more people will buy the product therefore the probability that there will be patches and updates increase)
Think about it this way most article even slashdot are reviews of products or potential products as long as the readers are not offended by it (negative publicity) I say go ahead and put it in.
But I do see your point and it is very valid, nevertheless publicity and advertising are neccessary evils in this day and age.
