  1. Re:good! on Youth Spend More Time on Web Than TV · · Score: 2, Insightful

I would say they are using interactive forms like instant messaging mostly. Which I suppose is better than your suppossed oppurtunity but I still think socially inverts kids. Its a whole lot easier for a kid to type, 'do u like me?' and push enter to a girl online than it is to actually excercise your vocal chords and ask her yourself. That creates a sort of dependence I've seen in kids where they are afraid to come out behind their monitors.
And when they are not instant messanging, they are looking at porn. Long-term activity of that and it probably does the same damage as above. Just my 2cents

  2. Re:Can they record? on Students Get iPods as Study Aids · · Score: 1

Yeah the Archos is pretty good deal, I found my with $50 rebate (check other story ) settling it to $200. The decent firmware and terrible manual can be immediately fixed by Rockbox, an opensource firmware project for the player which kicks a lot of butt. The only problems are that you can only record and play in the mp3 format due to the hardware and also the built-in mic is right above the harddrive of the unit, recording every whiz and click it makes when writing to the disk instead of the buffer. Really bad design flaw, but fixed by using your own mic which is a good idea anyway. But its great for recording classes

  4. No Loss on Yamaha To Withdraw From CD-R/RW Business · · Score: 1

I never liked my yamaha cdrw 2001ez burner (ide). I've had tons of buffer underruns and never got the protection to work right (I thought it was suppose to work automatically). In addition to that its terrible at ripping, sounding like a plane trying to take off yet sputtering at the end -- making tons of noise and not ripping very efficiently. At times it would freeze my entire computer. I've had multiple conifigurations and both windows xp and gentoo linux and neither seem to handle it any better. If anyone has advice about it please do but otherwise I'm trying to decide between getting a new burner or wait for the dvd rewriters come down in price.

15 mm of paper?! That's definitely thicker than a blouse :-) Besides if the advertising spam for the existing pocket cameras weren't explicity suggesting the naughty usage enough by flashing a sexy young female along with a phrase like "You can put this camera any where!", imagine the inuendos with some xray vision glasses. "An imager can show details of features under the skin." - being someone who can get a bit naeous at the sight of blood, taking too close a look with this technology might turn a naughy peek into a good look at all the guts. Ugh..

  6. Phish is doing nearly the same thing on Instant Concert CDs? · · Score: 2, Informative

if you go to http://www.livephish.com you can get a copy of the concert in .mp3 or .shn (loss-less compressed sound format) form for $10 or $15 respectively. Pretty good deal for 3 CDs worth of music if you like 20 minute long random jammings that sometimes includes vaccum cleaners as an added instrutment. They just started this since they got back together. Oh and there is no copy security feature to the mp3s or shns, they go by entirely by an honor system. Definitely a cool feature for those who want to grab the concert they attended.

  7. Re:Klerk on Web Site Sues Annoying Pest Troll · · Score: 1

"I may not agree with what he has to say, but I'll defend to the death his right to say it." And while we are on the issue of speech, when you rip a quote with giving credit, its plagarism. And it's worse when you mess up the quote. :-P. "I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it" -Voltaire Not trying to be a bum, just informative. And anyway I agree with what you are saying. The dick is free to say whatever he wants. Besides stupidity gets ignored, if he is going to act like a child like that I don't see there's any reason to pay attention him.
