How long before places like iTMS become the main source for distribution? The record companies should be getting nervous... once upon a time both artists and listeners needed them for distribution. Now they're useless.
Then all the record companies need to do is buy out Apple. Truth is, Apple just isn't big enough to hold out against them if they want it.
If we really pursued open markets, the japenesse and all others, should be able to download music from any legal site
I agree. If it is legal for a citizen of Japan to fly to America, buy a CD at American prices that is also available in Japan, and fly back with it to play at home, then they darn well ought to be able to buy that same track off of the American iTunes site at the American price.
In a truly honest world this would already be the case.
Japanese musicians under contract by Sony are defying their contracts by using Apple's iTunes service to deliver songs.
And this is how it should be. Musicians promoting revolution. Clearly the record companies are not looking out for anyone except their own fat bottom lines, and it's about time they take the hit for that. Go for it!
There are ways, not including convection, to move air without fans. Heck, The Sharper Image advertises theirs every day. And it would even help keep dust out of your PC.
describes 'dynamically generating a Web page in response to the request, the Web page including data dynamically retrieved from one or more data sources.
If these cowards were out for something more than extortion they should be suing Microsoft for selling the tools (ASP,.NET, IIS) for doing exactly this.
Come to think of it, what tools have they used to build their own web-site that implements these patents?
One can only speculate about why someone would do such a thing
That's about as dumb a statement as I can expect to see in print this week. We know why someone would do it. Information is valuable in many different ways. Get a clue!
Citing a recent example of vandalism, Wales recalled how following the election of the new Pope Benedict in April, a user substituted the pontiff's photo on the Wikipedia site with that of the evil emperor from the Star Wars film series.
You know, in it's own way this is funny! But it's also out of place.
What Wikipedia needs is a sister publication run by the same people called Fakipedia for people to post their best jokes and vandalisms on. And this way people looking for vandalisms will know where to look too.
A few years ago now one of my favorite restaurants started putting a full front page of each section of the current day's newspaper over urnials, and chalkboards w/chalk in the toilet stalls. And you know what, I never saw a single piece of vandalism there ever.
Cities create Graffiti Walls and zones to successfully channel otherwise destructive energies. Why not have a Wikipedia satire site? Run it off the same software and servers. I bet it would even be worth visiting just to see how clever Internet users can be.

Has this been lost? Or simply transferred to Apple the same way artists have been passed between companies by contract sales and buyouts for decades.
Is there really a change, or is Apple just the newest Master?

Can they kill the ability to play a legal disc that you already own? I would expect all heck to pay the first time this happens.
What I'd like is an AI component for Windows smart enough to identify problems in the OS and fix them before they byte me.
Obviously no Deep Blue Ocean Screen of Death for them.
This is very badly titled. They don't have this patent yet. It's their application that's in possible jeopardy.
Are you referring to the Apple logo?
I know you can't be talking about the batteries.
No. They're worried that they might lose a few cents to someone else in a market they believe God has granted to them alone.
I hope MS gets it in coupons and educational discounts for its own products!

Shouldn't Apple instead be giving them 25 iTMS downloads? After all, court decisions always result in vouchers -- not cash!
Wow! They beat them by that much in just a single day!! That has to be the fastest indexer ever!
Is that right after the Boston Baked Beans potluck?

It's always the same thing. Build something nice, make it available, and somebody(s) will try to tear it down.
And how else would you peruse a free service? EMW2K?
Some people seem unable to ever be happy. We give you bread, and you complain because it's not sliced.
Socialist governments like imprecise laws, because then the laws can mean what ever you want them to mean today.
