  1. The Questions Never Answered on Crackdown On Counterfeit Networking Gear · · Score: 1

The questions I never see answered in these articles is: How good (or bad) really is this stuff? Does it fail immediately? Is it riddled with bugs? Does it just perform at a sub-par level? Does it not play well with genuine Cisco? Is the problem that you can't get support for it afterwards? Is it built with different parts than the genuine item? Is it hardware spyware? Is it a covert attempt by the Chinese to control the entire Internet? Or is genuine Cicso just ridiculously overpriced?

  2. Seems to Me... on FCC Allows Blocking of Set-Top Box Outputs · · Score: 1

1: Rip the content by all means necessary and have it out on the BT sites within hours of release.

2: Go to the FCC and point out how this did nothing to prevent piracy, while annoying everyone in the process.

3: SoC dies the death it should have died long ago.

    4: Profit!

And if this doesn't work, vote for the other party next election.

  3. What I've Heard... on Blurring Lines — Dual Core Atom To Lift Netbooks · · Score: 2, Interesting

The DDR3-capable processors should allow data to be exchanged faster between the memory and CPU, translating to better overall netbook performance.

What I've heard is that memory isn't the bottleneck in Atom CPPU's. As such, DDR3 really won't improve performance at all -- and is really just a marketing bullet point to charge higher prices with.

  4. Apple Calling on The 4G iPhone's Finder Reportedly Located · · Score: 1

Why didn't Apple just call the phone and ask for it to be returned in exchange for a suitable reward?

Why didn't they used their vaunted find my phone system to locate it within hours of knowing it was missing?

Why wasn't it bricked within minutes of going AWOL, rather than letting the people play around with it for weeks?

Too many things just don't make sense about any of this.

Did the guy even tell Apple that it was missing?

  8. If We Had Tort Reform... on Fraud Fighter "Bobbear" To Close Up Shop · · Score: 2, Insightful

If we had lawsuit protection and a loser pays rule it would be a lot harder to threaten these sites with frivolous lawsuits. Especially if a judge ruled that you had to put up a bond to pay in the event you lost before you were allowed to file. You can argue the other way that this denies the poor justice, but the current system is crap to innocent defendants.

  9. I'm Continually Surprised... on Bad PR Forces Apple To Reconsider Banning Mark Fiore's App · · Score: 3, Funny

I'm continually surprised by how much crap everyone is willing to put up with from Apple, while worshiping the ground that Steve Jobs walks on. However, the proposals are coming under fire from union leaders who complain that thousands of public sector workers would be made jobless and pointed to the Government's poor record of handling personal data.

Like this is a surprise to anyone? If the unions had their way we'd all still be riding horses as long as the horse industry protected union jobs. How long before people - even union people - realize that more unions == lower productivity and a lower standard of living?

  14. Re:Meanwhile ACTUALLY, APPLE DOES HAVE... on Amazon Battles Apple By Arm-Twisting Publishers · · Score: 1

Apple is the only one who doesn't actually have a device available for sale right now?

Actually Apple has had a device for portable eBook reading available for sale for the last year. The Kindle reader for iPhone/iPod Touch has been a free app for months now, and other eBook readers have existed for these platforms as well. What Apple hasn't had is their own eBook store to profit from.
