All that, and I didn't have to use a strange tree-structured pager that poorly identifies links and doesn't behave like lynx or any other similar text-mode document navigation tool I am familiar with.

True. I hated info for the same reason, until I found that it did have sensible keybindings (n=next, p=previous, u=up etc.), although not what we, having been used to Lynx etc., would expect at first.

I think that there should be some way to have Lynx-like keybindings for info. In my ridiculous opinion (IMRO) they should have provided easily changeable keybindings as they did with GNU Emacs.

As a way of clarifying by biases, I don't use either GNU Emacs or Vim (although I have tried them) for my regular work, being a GUI person. So please don't consider that I have anything against either of these nice editors.

    Thank you.

In the article, especially in the 'Fictitious Case Study', the author makes quite a lot of snide (although funny) remarks about Enlightenment.

By the way, I am not an Enlightenment user, so don't think that is why posted this.

    For instance...

...Jim has a new 2.5Ghz P4 and finally has enough processing power to run the Enlightenment window manager...

    ...or...

...Andre finally manages to get Eterm and its 60 megabytes [ sic] of support libraries compiled....

  4. A plant that produces ozone. on Ozone As Pesticide · · Score: 0

I have heard of a plant (living organism) that produces ozone. It is called Basil or Ocimum basilicum, Ocimum Sanctum, Ocimum Spp [HL2000].

Some people aren't comfortable in swallowing information provided by holistics folks. Therfore, this claim may be considered outrageous.

According to local folklore, of the place to which this plant is native to, it keeps away snakes.

If this plant were effective as a pesticide, then they could be planted alongside crops to keep the insects away.

[Warning: Flamebait for those who jump the gun]

Below is a quote that I found to be a very useful answer to all the flamewars going on (as to who is better; Americans or non-Americans).

This is how to read it:

    • Americans: Read it as it is.
    • non-Americans: Think of it as satire.

If this doesn't solve the problem of flamewars, I have lost all hope for humanity. (Ha! Ha! Ha!)

We all agree that only American things are good and only Americans are right.

Therefore, Americans, please stop all the banter about Europeans, English, the SI (metric) system etc. Let the world say anything, Americans should be wise enough to understand that it is just their inferior intellect talking... just ignore them. We all know that only Americans are right.

By the way, Airbus A-380 is a great attempt by non-Americans considering they are not as powerful as Americans. So, like any superior beings, we will cheer them in their efforts.

So, please stop this pointless banter and start talking about some technical details instead.

    Thank you.

    >I didn't miss anything. There's nothing obfuscated about that code he posted as it is W3C HTML 4.01 Strict compatible

The posted code (MS Word HTML export) is definitely not W3C HTML 4.01 Strict. (Transitional? Most probably).

Furthermore, the XML code segment is not valid inside an HTML 4.01 document. So, it should have been XHTML and by no means is it XHMTL compliant (no quotes around attribute values, empty elements are not closed etc.)

However, at least some of the following aspects are much better compared to prior versions and in some respects even Mozilla Composer.

    • Tags are in lowercase.
    • All tags have closing tags.
    • Use of CSS.

  7. Re:An Indian Techie's perspective on MS Proposes Disclosing Windows Source To India · · Score: 1

Please don't tell me about popularity of Linux in India. From Cape to Kashmir its MS Windows(TM) and people know nothing but Windows(TM).

By the way, not only is there 'stopping Linux(or *BSD)', but it already has been.

    >Sooner or later India will grow strong enough to challenge US

I have seen Indians (in India) use MM/DD/YY format and US Letter size paper that Microsoft(R) packages as default into all Windows(TM) versions sold in India. I have seen Indians (in India) drool over American English, (again courtesy of Apple(R) and Microsoft(R)) thinking that using it would make them spite their former(?) oppressors. (Believe me, it doesn't. Use your native language instead if pride matters so much).

This is how Indians 'challenge the US'!!

India had its time, in the good old C.E. 1100's. Now it is time for others. I think India should get up on its feet first before they can 'challenge the US'. (Remember this whenever communal riots break out in India, and brother kills brother.)

I know it for a fact that Indians (I am ashamed) are the most gullible people in the world and will no doubt fall for any ploy played by Microsoft. Just as they fell for the religious card played by MI-6/OSS/Nehru-Jinnah (c. C.E. 1947) and the latest puppet government installation (c. C.E. 1998).

Of course, there are a few devoted open-source/free(dom) softare guys there too, just as there are in the US, Australia or Scandinavia. But, India doesn't stand a chance against the greatest power in the world... (whoevever that may be), and hence Open Source/Free(dom) Software will eventually die out in India.

    Thanks for your patience.

Pardon me for veering off the topic now and then.
