Walk up and down the highstreet, going in and out of shops. You probably dont notice it, but across EVERY doorway is an electronic scanning zone.

Currently this zone is checking for those little anti-theft tags.

In future, this field could be configured to scan for products, not just on exit, but on entry as well.

After purchasing something in a rival store you walk across the street and into another shop.....

Would you trust that shop NOT to make use of the marketting information that would bring?

It is not just about somebody chasing you with a microwave dish. It's monitoring everywhere you go, everything you buy.

Google have given a great deal of thought into their filesystem, and most likely made some huge mistakes along the way. In the end they have a stable workable system that still gives me the shivers occasionally.

I would see these as guidelines for a further next generation filesystem rather than ripping the code from underneath them and calling it our own.

I would not want to ban based upon email address, there would be no way to identify the fake from the real.
No, the AV companies need to start working on an effecient mailserver (or simply hook into the existing ones), and prevent sucessful transmission of viral contents.

Because it would be on an upstream server away from the users, Virus definition files will be updated quicker, and protection will be automatic.

The problem then becomes one of localised ISP traffic only, and this can be cured by the ISP themselves. Another benfit of this, the ISP can send a single "You are infected" mail to the Account holder of the source IP.
For Unknown IP addresses - simply block relay access :)
