Uhhh...
Steam is one of the biggest DRM lock-in distribution systems ever invented.
That doesn't make it good or bad, but are you sure you know what you're talking about here?
In "A Deepness in the Sky", the evil-doers (not to be confused with axis-of-evil members) were able to "focus" people they enslaved to make them hundreds or thousands of times more productive workers.
This article made me think of that so I posted it.

a "screenshot" should capture what is on the "screen" and save that to an image file. That's what a screenshot has been historically, and it's what people expect from similarly named features.
What you're talking about would be an entirely different feature. You're talking about "Render this scene to a file", in which case you might want to increase the resolution or quality settings.
What would be a more valuable feature in certain games would be something like "Render this entire map to a file." The thought being of course that you would create an image that showed the entire map while the screen would only show a portion.
What was done in this case is so clearly a dodge. They know that hardware sites often measure image quality of cards by taking screen captures and comparing the images and they were just trying to hide their warts.
... from any other customer. If they want to develop their own solution in-house, why shouldn't they be able to.
As the size of an organization grows, the benefits of internalizing things like that increases. A 20 person company couldn't afford to develop it's own operating system, but a 250,000 person company could.
Also, you shouldn't measure the government by the number of people it governs, but rather by the number of people it employs.

I think the true measure of something on the internet is simply how many things it's better than. For Carnage Blender, that's a lot!
Over the years, fun and original sites have been culled from the flock faster than you can say "dot com." Home-grown sites like Carnage Blender are pretty much the only things worth visiting any more. It's a true testament to survive this long as so many others throw in the towel.

I use SmartCVS (for CVS) and they have a GUI client for SVN now. http://smartcvs.com/
