In many organizations, once you've paid for the device it's free. You have a few guys running around doing a reinstall when the hard drive dies or whatever, but they'll be doing that sort of thing anyway, and they're paid anyway. I don't agree that they magically get more expensive as time goes on. It's not like they are cars which require expensive repairs all the time. At some point a PC will cost more than it's worth to repair, but that's the point you chuck it and get a new one, and even then you can harvest parts as spares. That's why so many companies (and individuals) have XP machines (and why they'll be on Windows 7 in ten years time). It's a crazy waste of money to upgrade when for most people there is no advantage whatsoever.
No, it was always just you choosing for-profit company A over for-profit company B; perhaps because of a logo or shitty free router or something.
I'd rather companies didn't discriminate, but it's hard to come up with a compelling argument for why they should be legally forbidden from doing so. As long as it's out in the open, take your pick and sign up.
Bad analogy. The difference between static and moving, or black and white and colour is vast. HD vs 4k is nothing. Your house is littered with 3D tvs you no longer watch, right? No doubt when 4.5k comes out that'll be a huge breakthrough you'll be spending $$$ on too? You want to watch those shitty companies - they're only after your money!
Which words are missing? There's an accidental additional word `the`. Kind of obvious really; keep on practising. English isn't really all that hard; you'll get the hang of it eventually.
Because we love formats which are impossible to convert into any other format; which require complicated, ugly tools to perform even basic formatting, and because we desperately need a format which essentially displays graphics and text to require weekly updates to remove the latest batch of exploits.
"Believes" don't require citations. He's not quoting anyone else; he's stating his opinion. If someone says that their microwave oven killed their dog, who was in the garden, and you say that you don't believe that the microwave was the cause, you would be unable to produce a citation (as it was you making the claim), nor would the onus be on you to do so.
The lack of patches mean all these old boxes get taken out; there'll be no need to write web apps which run on them as they'll be too busy serving up DDOS/malware to people using slightly more recent versions of Windows!
He said Linux, not gnu linux. No-one calls it that.

"Invest heavily in spyware for ancient insecure OS, then resist change"
And also, pedantically, it's not the first time the world's largest ship (or barge) has been floated; they all have.

There were riots on London the other year and people got convicted for taking part and stealing one item.
Yeah, you want to stop doing that. It's against the law.
In that case, dial down the excitement of this device. There are plenty of cameras which can take pictures in the "dark".

Slower than a Raspberry Pi? Wow! There must be a reason for making such a device, but I can't for the life of me imagine what it might be.

If you do, and it breaks, you can console yourself with the knowledge that they never did actually make them like they used to.
Follow the money. Is there any money for the tele-sales companies, or phone the companies, to prevent phone calls from taking place?
On the positive side, this app is "just" $80! That's all it costs! Not a dollar more!

You don't void your warranty in the EU doing that. You need to speak to a politician or something.

On the weekends?
But he will have slaves. And it will be a he.
Where did you read that? Tin foil hat magazine?
Charger at work, charger at home. Problem solved.
Is replying optional? Or is there some sort of requirement?

> What grounds would you fire such a person under?
Doesn't every single employment contract in the world contain words to the effect that you'll be fired if you give the employer a bad name?
