I watched someone play one of the next-gen football (US) games at Fry's, and I was horrified when they scored a point and for a full-on 5 seconds or so a Toyota ad was covering the entire TV screen. Personally that worries me more then anything, because I play video games to get away from advertising-soaked broadcast TV.
They mention mature games, but I think as gamers, we should all be grateful there are not an abundance of games with mature themes. Most games can be fun without having to focus on putting the most blood/nudity/swearing into the game. The moment we have a segmented market for pure adult games I think we will see much worse games. But that might just be my inner cynic talking.
The problem is that mix tapes invariably help those without exposure and fame already to achieve more of both.
This tacit agreement to share music for collaboration does exist in many artists minds (except maybe the Metallica's and other super-popular artists out there with one thing in mind the $$$). The thing is that many of these artists are represented on many levels by a business that has only one thing in mind and that is $$$. Basically this is a money grab, and it is a perfectly legal one at that. If you want the money on the table, grab it, especially when you have no reputation in the mix as the RIAA has shown many times that it doesn't care about it's own reputation.
The RIAA acts as the reputation-shield for those artists who are only interested in the money; Conversely the RIAA acts as the mafia (only interested in making money, regardless of how) in regards to smaller artists who are only interested in more play. Unfortunately the whole system feeds on itself as artists get super-popular, the artist might change their mind and become more interested in the money, and then the RIAA serves its purpose to the artist quite well.
I know blogging about something like this is bound to gain a lot of traction pretty quickly, but isn't it also possible to send in a complaint to the FCC about this? I know the FCC isn't typically what any of us think of when we think justice, but it is within their domain to dish out some hefty justice.
Assuming you were playing the PC version, you really should try some of the Mods created by the community for Oblivion. They have mods to make the game a lot more exciting and fun to get into.
The speed at which you level has a mod for those who want it to slow down, the leveled monsters, which many people hate, have a mod. The treasure chests, locks, traps, alchemy and hordes of other things have mods.
One of the cool things about oblivion is that you can visit somewhere multiple times (e.g. the imperial city sewers) and there will be new monsters and new things in the environment, which makes it great to play through. Then again, TES isn't for everyone. I like RPG's and I like action, and I don't have a whole lot of time so Oblivion fits perfectly for me.
Thank you, Oblivion is a great game and too many people dump on it for not being perfect, and for consolidating skills. Personally I love the game, it is just as addicting as the first one, and I LOVE the addition of traps and other items that make the environment more interactive.
Works great, even though some spams get through they do seem to identify and eliminate quite a bit of spam.
I'm still worried why so much spam recently though. Is there anyone out there who seriously READs this garbage and actually considers sending money to these people?
Seems like the problem with spam is only going to get worse and worse until the big email providers can come up with some mechanism to prevent spam that still allows independent non-business email servers to still serve their purpose. I don't see this happening any time soon.
No mention of these yet, so thought I'd let everyone know. The DiscSavers cases are great for fragile DVDs. It keeps them safe, and gives you easy access to them. Try dropping one of those on the ground and you'll see it doesn't result in scratches and broken cases. Highly suggested for anyone planning on storing any burned DVDs for any length of time.
Preach on brotha! I was so disgusted with the programming courses offered at the college I was attending, I decided to get a job instead of taking more classes that were taught using Visual Basic. VB is not an advanced language that challenges students to learn, instead it promotes laziness and bad programming techniques.
You sir, are an idiot. It is as if you haven't ever watched the show, you know full well that they attack both democrats and republicans equally. Both extreme sides of the political spectrum are very good fodder for a political comedian. In case you haven't noticed, the democrats haven't been much in the spotlight since the republicans took both houses, therefore there is very little news to make fun of.
Gah, in my limited experience with city-state officials, it seems that they should all be required to consult experts in regards to issues that they themselves have no experience with. There is much more grace and dignity in saying, "I don't know anything about this, find me someone who does that knows what they are talking about", then talking, and even as you said, MANAGING, without knowing what they are doing.
How much more media attention do we need to give these jackasses at Diebold before the person in charge of contracting them goes.. "Hey wait a minute, you guys aren't very good at this ludicrously simple task," and takes a different approach to voting machines that doesn't give ultimate authority to some "company" over whether or not our votes will count.
While those points you raised are valid. I don't feel the game system is flawed, I think there is a disconnect between how the game is, and how you want it to be. If you want it to be a power-level kill everything game, then maybe you should go back to Morrowind and its invincible-destroyer-of-worlds-type equipment.
If you want to increase a skill, then you either practice with the skill, or you go to a trainer and he teaches you. If you feel that you are getting jipped if you don't get a +5 stat each time you level up, then you are a power gamer, and I'm not sure Oblivion is for you. Oblivion seems almost made in such a way to curb the power gamer, which I don't mind at all, all the more fun and challenging it is.
I know in Morrowind, when I was playing that (casually for about a year) I had a character that was invincible, it wasn't fun. Atleast in Oblivion, with the skill system it has, I know that I'll never have the problem of being invincible, and the game will be fun and challenging all the way till the end.
I don't need the bleeding edge equipment. My Athlon 64 3000 combined with a GeForce 6800 128mb and some hard drives is still rather fast for most everything I need. The upper limit on what kind of speed we can expect from a PC has not been hit yet though. The upper limit is now much more elusive. I think its a matter of making software take advantage of beefier hardware in smarter ways.
Lets try not just "blow through that gig of memory" the instant we load this program. We need software that can use all available resources in smart ways that will give us noticable improvements in the way we use our PC. What I mean is, if when I load my OS, there is always going to be thousands and thousands of little things that happen before the OS is fully loaded. Now this is the case for most any OS these days. Some are faster then others obviously, but lets try to make newer PC's that focus on efficeny and speed. If my PC takes a minute or more so to load, I expect all the load times after the inital load to be instant.
Why can't we do this? I want instant loading applications, I want instant rendering, I want instant things, that is what sells new hardware: improvements people need. I would get a new PC right now if I could have things to a much higher degree of speed. I think the software behind the hardware might be to blame for some of this though.
The only way Sony can pull this monster together is if they can leverage the monster intellectual property Sony has onto these devices at very low/free cost, then all this broohaha is nothing. Hardware is hardware, hardware doesn't matter if there is no software on it. My friend with lots of disposable income was considering buying one of those "magic" remotes you call the PSP, but when he looked at the game selection he reconsidered. I have a bad feeling this is going to happen with PS3 too. Unless Sony can pull its head up out of it's own ass and decide to put something consumers REALLY want on the table. Not buzzwords and not gimmicks.
To help you surf the web without being spyed on I recommend installing Tor then installing FoxyProxy. Tor takes care of the proxy encryption, and FoxyProxy lets you use all those proxies while you surf. Invaluable for the privacy conscious, or rather anyone living in the 21st century.
The CSS code in IE7 is a hell of a lot better, the only thing I really want is embedded inline images, IE6 supports them to a fair degree but so far IE7 doesn't, I want a webpage with all my images built in! Hooray!
It's not this one, is it?

Don't worry, just put a sheep in front of them!

Slashdot collectively exclaims a highly technical "TOLD YOU SO!" to HDDVD and Bluray manufacturers the world over.

Do you think they would give their own game a scathing review if it sucks? :)
It's like Digg, but automated.

- $1000 price tag
- Can't do anything with regular CDs
- $19-$25 for one disc? Can you say Zip disk?
- Can't burn dual layer discs, although dual layer blu-ray discs are available, completely ASININE!
- "The drive includes Roxio Digital Media 7 for creating discs, but does not ship with software to watch Blu-ray movies." WTF?
Sounds like a winner to me!The CSS code in IE7 is a hell of a lot better, the only thing I really want is embedded inline images, IE6 supports them to a fair degree but so far IE7 doesn't, I want a webpage with all my images built in! Hooray!
