"Physically, the device is a sleeve. The iPod slips in the bottom, locks into a USB 2 connector, and effectively vanishes into the larger iSee."
This device uses the iPod as a generic external hard drive and nothing else. I was a little hopeful that you would be able to use the iPod's click wheel.
"Most people will use these devices to watch small clips, Scott said, and not the kind of studio fare that Apple is selling on its site."
So who wants to pay more money for a device that can only play "small clips?" Even in HD, this device is not worth it.
This seems like a good product in its own right; why attach it to an iPod? I enjoy watching TV shows on my Palm Lifedrive and I do not need to attach it to an iPod to work!
That is exactly why my friends who work in retail universally dispise having to work self checkout. It royally sucks to have to run 4 lanes at once instead of just one.
Wow, support the US government and get modded flamebait.
Anyway, I am eager to get to the bottom of these contrasting reports. The US has asserted in the past that it will not hand over control, so I was shocked when I read this writeup. What are the disadvantages of the current system?
"If MS really wants to do end-users a favor, then they'd stop "forcing" crap down their throat via MS Update."
I agree with this. It seems that many of the latest things that Microsoft is forcing onto my computer are not really essential. Windows Update is a great site as it makes it remarkably easy to keep your computer up-to-date. I disagree with their practice of forcing updates, though, even though it does help the technologically incompetent patch their systems.
Again it seems that the writeup got some things wrong. The United States has been doing an overall good job of running things. I do not mind the US being in control and I do not see major advantages to handing over control. I also disagree with some of the things that ICANN has proposed in the past.
In the status quo Internet traffic is not very censored or controlled by the US and things just plain work. I think this is a very good arrangement.
I agree with what you are saying. However some of us who have training in healthcare view doctors as being aloof out of touch with those below them, but I know that you work damn hard on behalf of patients. I understand that it is a very tough job physically, mentally, and emotionally. After all, if it were easy then anybody could do it. I say that the "biological mechanic" idea stops at the First Responder or EMT-Basic level, as real doctors have to be able to deal with every possibility. Just because something might be easy most of the time does not mean that the minority might require sudden and complicated intervention by a skilled doctor.
Very true. When you think about distributed computing, you realize that people's (comparatively) slow Internet connections can still prove useful to clusters.
I recomend an ING Orange savings account. You can link it to any bank's checking account meaning that it will follow you even if you move to another region of the country. The interest rates are amazing there.
I will admit that it was not nearly as good as their self titled debut album, but it was pretty well received at the time and I think there are some good songs on it. What do you think is the matter with it?
Right here: Natural Tools by Weld I think the Internet keeps a lot of stuff available (like the aforementioned AFOS and Weld albums) long after 99.999% of the world doesn't really care about it anymore. Needless to say, this is a real boon for those of us still living in the 0.001%
To be fair, at least he sticks to prescription drugs and not that crap in your inbox. Question: if I order penile supplements through spam, will they actually mail me anything? I know that it will not work (wrote a big research paper of dietary supplements) but do they follow through or just steal your money?
Every time I ask one of my lawyer friends a question, I always get that answer. Darn federalism! Anyway, it will be extra interesting if the MPAA ends up paying out the nose for legal fees.
Where are you doing this? If it is anywhere near SE Pennsylvania or Washington DC, I want in! Then again, maybe I am better off not knowing how to manufacture car bombs. As an EMT, I hope that this is the only time I see exploding cars!!! Anyway, I'm a fan of your work.
"I could be wrong but I think it's possible to throttle your upstream to 0."
It is possible, but that completely destroys the democratic principles of Bittorrent. It really irritated me when people do this. I do not use to it steal music or movies, but there are some great (legal) things out there that are available on Bittorrent.
"most of the problems open source faces have come with its commercial acceptance"
Conversely some of open source's greatest successes have come from its commercial acceptance. OpenOffice and the growth of commercial Linux distros have definitely aided the movement. I never would have considered using anything other than MSFT Office until OoO 2.0 was released. Now I use that program and love it.
I'm glad that I don't have problems like those freaks. I have more important things to do with my time. [Hopes nobody notices that he has posted dozens of times on/. today alone.]
I created a MySpace back when it was brand new and never touched it. I also made another account (forgot about the old one) just to browse some indie music sites. I think MySpace is useful for garage bands until they break 100 fans. Other than that it irritates the hell out of me. Maybe that is because I am a college student with the wonders of Facebook.
As a fan of very obscure music, I am glad that there is a place I can find it. Try finding A Flock of Seagulls' third album in just any store.
I think that a lot of the comments here are missing the point. You do not have to advirtise for the bottom 50% of music. It already has a devoted niche following. Just realize that it will never be as popular as the chart toppers.
I see what you are saying, and I have a friend who has a similar setup with his home computer. The problem as I see it is the limited interest in running your own VPN. People use corporate VPNs or hosted services like GoToMyPC. I carry the music and files I want with me on my LifeDrive and I synch everything before I go places. I do not see this being one of the primary motivators for enhanced bandwidth.
Again, I agree with what you say about businesses.
Sorry, couldn't find the "+1 relevent" option. I am twenty years old and I am already locked in to most of my brands. Usually it is the one that is the cheapest.
"That's the feeling that you will be reading the exact same article tomorrow."
Considering that this is/. you probably will be reading the same thing several times. And yes, I did follow the link in hopes of making the exact same joke. [lowers head in shame]
But the vast majorities of families, American or French, will not use this much bandwidth. There are geeky families that can soak up serious bandwidth and even this cannot combat the/. effect, but I am talking about the average user.
May the screaming is the Mac being in pain from having to run Windows. (I'm a dyed in the wool Windows user, but I had to.)

The next great invention: the RFID scanner scanner!
