  1. Mod parent flamebait on ISPs Experiment With Broadband Download Capping · · Score: 1

First of all, the reply before your's didn't see it as a weak analogy, he made a good point. Second, bandwidth is just as essential to internet use as air is to life. Third, bandwidth isn't that difficult to create and only costs as much money as it does because companies are creating regional monopolies. Fourth, that being said, bandwidth could very easily become just as limitless as air should these monopolies dissolve, and finally, capping users who use "too much" bandwidth is wrong. The ISPs should expand the amount of bandwidth available if they're encountering a shortage. If they honestly cannot afford that kind of expansion, then and only then does capping become moral in my eyes. And I, being the subscriber to what I consider a fairly capped ISP, am no hypocrite.

Yeah that pretty much sums it up. But it's not as if Nintendo hasn't fucked themselves in the past though. Don't get me wrong, I love Nintendo. They've always been my favorite console just because they make such wonderful quality games. But I've lost faith in their corporate ability years ago.

It all started when they got rid of Squaresoft. (Or when they let Squaresoft defect. Whichever interpretation you prefer.) No more Final Fantasies on Nintendo. Big problem.

Then they go and shoot themselves in the foot with the N64 / Gamecube. Playstation / Sega was using CDs; 700mb data freedom by now. Nintendo still used cartridges which seemed to max out at 128mb data (based on my ROM ripping experience.) Then Xbox / PS2 come out. They use DVDs. 4.x gigs. GC uses minidisks. 2 gigs is it? Xbox plays DVDs. PS2 plays DVDs. Gamecube? Sorry. You get the picture. Nintendo is using obsolete or less powerful technology in their consoles from, what I've been told, is fear of piracy. And judging from the progress on www.emutalk.net and various other Nintendo emu sites, all that extra effort didn't get them much.

Then, as if that weren't enough, despite pleading cries from die hard Nintendo fans like myself, Nintendo announces they are dropping all plans to develop online games.

... or how stupid you are for buying it three times. Have you ever heard: Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. s/Fool me/Replace it/
That concept also applies to the prospect of replacing your console(s) once every year or two as well. If you keep up on the three major consoles and their games with each release, you'll be spending more money than you would buying multiple computers! PC games are the biggest bang for your buck. Besides, if you really want that select consoles game, emulators are widely available.

Sometimes I can't understand why people buy consoles at all when there are emulators, but then I remember that most people are ignorant, lazy, impatient, or all of the above. Just read the forums on emutalk.net sometime. The regular influx of newbie morons who ask for free ROMs and bitch because they can't configure their emu properly is staggering. People seem to forget that emulation is legal but free games is not. People confuse the selfless emu programmers who devote their time and effort to their free software with lowly hackers who pay for nothing. But despite all that, some day the fall of the game console will be seen, bringing rise to further the already dominating PC gaming platform.

But take a look at the hundreds of games for PS2. How many good ones can you name? Not many. You've got your FFX and besides that there's no real incentive to buy that console. On the other hand, me being someone who hates buying consoles finds it almost irresistable to resist the GC because of Metroid Prime, Windwaker, Smash Bros Melee, and other classic titles that Nintendo pumps out on a regular basis. Why isn't the best console (GC) the most popular? Why is it in fact the least popular? Because people are morons and they need their filler games, not classics.
