www.cpureview.com did some dual celeron reviews and linux kernal compile stuff. I think he came up with -j (# of cpu +1 ) for best compile performances over one or two cpus.
This a test between 95 and NT, with nothing to do with SMP. Edit boot.ini, copy your default NT SMP line, and add/onecpu to it. Rerun Quake2 tests with NT SMP, one cpu, and 95 to give us numbers worth anything.
It wouldn't be much even it were technically feasible. MS license fees for CE are much much less than 98, and as a result MS is kinda worried about sub notebooks running CE to save on license costs.
I am basically an NT guy (pays the bills), but have dabbled in Linux for a while, currently using it on a proxy server for my cable modem. Mandrake is Slick. Capital S Slick. I am thinking of using it on a pc for my computer phobic mother. She would use a browser if she had faith in the machine not blowing up on her. So, with the stability of Linux I am thinking I am gonna get a 486 66 going with it for her with only Netscape and AIM (cant remeber the linux port name) for her. cool.

FWIW, this month all MSDN subscribers got W2k RC1 in professional, server and advanced server varieties.
People may in fact regret it now, but Ventura was by no means a Howard Stern type candidate. Ventura always polled with numbers that put him in contention (although still very unlikely). He always was polling over 25% which is significant in a three way race.
Jesse Ventura's campaign is supposed to be the model. Had email lists for each county, or some such, and were basically used for campaign updates, but heavily before local campaign appearances. As a result , Ventura got amazing turn out at local events, which helped give his campaign much needed credibility. Also, the email techniques probably did wonders to GOTV (get out the vote, geeks can always learn a few more acronyms) with the male 18-25 demographic, which supported him resoundingly.
If anyone has read both of my posts on this thread, you'll see that they are written as a political scientist who happens to be a geek, not as a optimistic geek who wants to redress governmental oppression in a yet to be determined manner. Basically, I don't think a web based party has any hope whatsoever of suceeding. Third parties have incredible barriers in the US (a discussion that can take place somewhere else). What should happen is the creation of an political action committee to aid like minded candidates, regardless of party. If you could get 50,000 geeks to pay $20 a year, even after administrative overhead, you can still throw a lot of money around to favorable candidates. We can't count on software companies (cough, UCITA cough) to do our lobbying, can we?
Are many campaigns running their own servers? It is my impression that that is currently an outsourced function, and basically just web content. I feel that very soon (if not now), it would be a "good thing" for campaigns to be using SSL secured web based email accounts. Has email made any inroads as a form of intra campaign communication? Given the possibilities (and the enormous motivations, read FDR and Nixon) for intercepting political communications, secure email should be a more favorable form of communication than phones or faxes. Is anyone taking these fears into account?
The K7 200mhz system bus (with support for 400mhz on the way) and its mesh design could result in absolute Intel thrashing x86 SMP boxes with 4+ CPUs. There are tons of "ifs" involved (if they keep the money flowing, if the bigs boys wanna try it, etc.), but the core architecture is a huge leap forward for x86 SMP.
Not true. NT and Linux do the idle thing wheras 9x doesn't. I really don't feel like trying to dig up the temeprature comparison between NT and 9x. though.
I am 20. One of my best friends is 20. We made the mistake of going to see Eyes Wide Shut at a national Amusement theatre. Because we were both under 21 (!!!!!), we could not buy any additional tickets for a friend who we were going to pick up. Their corporate policy is that to buy more than one ticket for a R movie you have to be over 21. I asked, what if I am a parent and want to bring my kids to the show (highly likely in this day and age, and pertinent because R is 17 unless accompanied by parent or guardian). I also asked how could they stop me from charging the tickets, as any 18 yr old can get a credit card. These queries left them dumbfounded, naturally, leaving them to parrot on about corporate policy.

Just like the porn industry, the video games industry is larger than the film industry.

Do you have a mortgage? Is it more than what you make in a week? If it is, do you consider yourself "earning money" or "paring away debt"?
About 1/4 of the US budget is debt payment. We are now making payments without increasing the amount of debt as a result of a balanced budget.
