His whole gripe was on Spatial Nautilus and themability? What a dumbass. Try covering something like, ease of use, stability, consistancy. I know Gnome isnt perfect but it gets better and faster with each release and if all you have to bitch about is "I can't change my titlebars color." then just keep your mouth shut. No one cares. Next he will complain about how its impossible to change the gnome menu icon easily. I think businesses want their employees to worry about more important things. This guy is a troll and nothing else. I don't hear him complaining about the utter lack of themability in the default WinXP desktop. What does it have, 3 themes? The rest you have to pay for. What a boner.

  6. Usability / Smusability on Making Things Easy Is Hard · · Score: 1

I think people tend to be unfair to open source software in terms of usability. Whether we like it or not, we are trying to snag windows users so we tend to cater towards that goal. Well, that makes us focus on usability of windows, and other Microsoft products. Yes, MS products are fairly user friendly and easy to use. Well, LINUX software may not be up to that standard yet in terms of friendly interfaces but there are PLENTY of windows programs NOT from microsoft that have HORID interfaces. Ever use Lotus Notes? How about cd burning in windows? What I'm getting at is this, While the LINUX desktop (KDE/Gnome) doesn't have the system level GUI's to match what Windows offers, when talking about JUST applications, I believe Gnome / KDE are MUCH easier to use than MOST windows programs (excluding MS products). Epiphany and Firefox are WAY nicer to browse with than IE. Gnumeric is a wonderful spreadsheet program. Evolution is Great (albeit a bit slow). Totem will play just about any media format (without taking over parts of your system which a media player has no business poking around in)

On the contrary, I don't infringe on copyright. I however WOULD download music if they charged a fair price for it. What if my computer crashes and my hard drive dies? Are they going to replace the music I lost? No... I will just be shit out of luck. No way I am paying for THAT!!! I will just buy used CD's until the downloadable music business gets its act together.

  8. Re:$0.99 ?? on Audio Lunchbox: Music with no DRM · · Score: 1

The point is, they are only knocking about 40% off the price of the song when compared to buying it on a CD. Lets look at the facts. Digital downloads cost them NOTHING to produce. The consumer is getting NOTHING tangible. This is pure profit for them. They would make mad cash selling them for lets say $.45. I know I would buy them. But since they like to price gouge, screw them.

As far as the actual OS install goes, LINUX once again is much easier to install (depending on the distro) than windows. The only reason you think windows is easier is that it was probably installed when you got the computer. Windows is not all that easy either. And there is no way you are gonna convice me that installing apps in windows is easier. apt-get has to be the easiest thing in the world.
