Ok, first of all, I call bullshit.... I don't know ANY male who is married and refuses to do his share of the household responsibilities. It is quite common.
I can only speak for how it is here in my little corner of central Wisconsin but most of what I see are couples more or less sharing responsibilities. It might be different in other areas of the country.
Sorry to rant but I am really getting sick of people generalizing about how people are by what country they live in. I am American. I don't sit around all day getting drunk and wearing a wife beater. I didn't vote for G.W. Bush. I don't drive an SUV. Generalizing like that is a form of prejudice no different than discriminating against someone on the grounds of their race, religion or sexual orientation. It's basically judging someone on something that they have no control over, Where they were born. Just because of what you see on the news. Believe it or not, people in America are just like everyone else in the world. They want to do the best they can for themselves and their families. Sure, there are some people who are shitty, self serving back stabbers but I hardly think that is a uniquely American phenomenon.
America is not summed up by it's government. Take your head out of the sand and see people for who they are, not what their government does or doesn't do.
And as for a 3 bedroom house taking 25 hours a week to maintain. What the fuck are you doing to it? Are you repainting it every week? I'm sorry, currently I am out of work because of a layoff and my fiancee (sp?) works. I take care of the house and all chores and I hardly have enough to fill 2 days of the week.
Being that I am out of work I do all the housework and cook. I have no problem with that and anyone who does has problems.
A typical woman is not interesting in anything other than clothes and the last soap opera, while the typical man cares about nothing but beer and viewing a mindless football/baseball/etc game on the TV.
Don't forget about boobies!!!
"'iPod' is beginning to refer to any hard-disk mp3 player. I've got an iHP-140, another guy I know has a Karma, and a lot of people have actual Apple machines, but 'iPod' is becoming a generic term for any of them."
Ummm, No it's not....
The term that's become generic is "MP3 Player" because whether it plays WMA's, OGG's, or ACC's it is still called an MP3 player. You did it yourself in the post. A more fitting term would be Digital audio player. But nothing I've seen or heard has shown me that 'Ipod' is becoming a generic term.
I can't wait until the digital audio, digital video players come out. DV/DA player? Hmmm, maybe not....
Ok, AOL big wigs are obviously smoking crack. Not only are they releasing a browser that most tech magazines and even the federal government tell you to avoid using, but who is this aimed at? Those people running the IE-free version of windows?
Why the hell wouldn't they base this on Mozilla or Firefox?
That would be like goodyear releasing a new tire based on the old firestones from a few years back that the government MADE them recall because they were exploding.
"To boil a frog you can't just throw a live frog into a hot pot of water (it'll jump out). What you do is put a frog in a cold pot of water and slowly turn up the heat, the frog never leaps out because the change is too slowly, then when the water's too hot the frog can't jump out because it's dead."
MS keeps making computing less and less under your control. Everyone puts up with it because they do it slowly. No one 'jumps out' because they dont realize the heat is being turned up.
Are you serious? I just rebuilt my work PC with WinXP and it uses 256mb of memory and is dog slow... My work PC also has a 2.2ghz processor. Running just firefox, and office made it dog slow. Menus take forever to appear AND populate. Window redraws are slow as hell.
At home I run Gnome 2.6 with only a 1.4ghz processor and the desktop is MUCH more responsive.
Currently I have: firefox evolution gnumeric gnome calculator beep media player firestarter firewall gnome system monitor k3b burning a DVD and 3 gnome terminals running and the desktop remains completely responsive. Oh yeah, I am also ripping a DVD on my other dvd drive, running software raid, sshd and apache2. I also run 3ddesktop with 12 virtual desktops.
No slowdown at all. WinXP would choke on HALF of that load. Sure the load times may be quicker for some MS software, but as far as 'Smooth' multitasking goes, WinXP cant compete.
Currently with all that running I am using 222mb of memory and no swap.
I dont know what kinda setup you have but its obviously configured wrong.
Um, enable famd and you won't have to kill the toolbar to make it refresh. They have had that working for many releases now. Don't blame the gnome hackers for something your distro left out.
Come on, everyone needs the power they have. You don't think being a spam zombie has no effect on the CPU do you?

Um... Rightclick the menu and all your menu editing functions are right there. Not a folder view like Windows but quite easy. Also if you want a folder view enter "Applications:" into a nautilus window and bam, you have a folder view to use to edit menus. Just because you haven't figured it out doesn't mean its not there. Read the user manual.

I guess they got the name of the company wrong in the movie I, Robot.
It's Microsoft, not USR. It always seemed like something MS would be more likely to do anyway.
Well, if they are gonna do it, they should do it right. That would actually be something impressive.
will it be able to RIP the label off of whatever media you are copying to make an exact copy?
Were you born a moron or did you take classes to get like this?
only White "BREAD" crackers. Homie...

Did PPC even exist when NT 4 came out?

Way to go AOL.
dumbasses.
Obviously since uptime is stored in a 32 bit integer, Microsoft themselves never expected Windows to reach 50 days of uptime. Kinda telling isn't it.

I love how people keep saying Microsoft has already done this when the product won't be out for another 2 - 3 years.
I think it is more correct to say, "Microsoft is trying to do this with WinFS."
I still think Google would be able to get this "Out the door" before Longhorn arrives if they wanted to since they are in the data searching business.
Stop believing the hype. Longhorn is NOT a product yet.
What an asslicking, piece of shit, motherfucking, dick gobbling, aids infested cum bubble shyster.

Humorous that in a post where you are correcting someones grammer that you spell grammer incorrectly.
XFREE86 is still considered porn by microsoft apparently.
