    sure it chords for almost everything
    and its hard to get used to (i still haven't yet) but i'm sure if i spent a week typing exclusively on it, i would bitch about all the non-chording keyboards and their inefficency.....


    plus its neat :)

    all caps are generally only used in perl for filehandle names, because they don't have a type indicator in the front and might conflict with a reserved word

    The article also says its patented so in 7 years(?) everybody can use it, although right now people can use it as long as they don't get caught..... (patenting something requires explaining how it works or so i've gathered from posters on /.)

    2.2.28 claims to support that much too

    note that thats the restriction on x86 proccessors, i would imagine alphas have either supported this for a long time, or support more


    i've not seen an x86 board yet that can use more than 1 gig of ram, but then i really haven't seen any enterprise boards

    Seriously though, it would be nice if they could toss the linux exes on the cd, and a penguin logo on the box and a pamphlet in the box that says

    Since she(gender neutral) was posting as an AC, the score starts at 0, from which it can go up or down, or in this case only down

    Until a moderator gets a chance to moderate that down like the flamebait it is, it will be scored a 0, normally logged in users start at 1.

    Actually i believe the signal comes from the radio, which sends it to the antenna, which meerly distributes the radiation to a wider area :)

    Think about this....

    The planet is 4 times the size of jupiter, we can't get unpersoned space probes to survive to the surface, for various reasons, wind, gravity, atmosphereic interference so even if we do we can't tell, etc, multiply that by 4 and then start assuming that anywhere life can be it will be....


    maybe there is life somewhere in that system on a planet we can't see or hear very well yet, who knows

    besides, its impossible to prove that we(earth inhabitants) are the only life in the universe without checking every other place in the universe thoroughly, and then hoping no life spontaneously occurs after we've stopped checking, to prove that we are not alone however is easy, we only have to demonstrate one being that is not of this earth

    I would assume the cities with more people in them would tend to have better communications (and thus more people :), so you can help a large amount of the population initially, and worry about the rural areas after.

    its somewhat like dsl/cable modems, if you imagine the providers are altruistic rather than capitialistic.... they will roll out in the centers of large population to help the most people first, then go to the rural areas.

    also other people have mentioned wireless net, which doesn't effect the necessary electricity issues, but would help with communication

    yeah probably

    i didn't know anybody was as twisted as me.....

    you can save a lot of work by being twisted though... rather than a bunch of if thens when you get something from a server to call a function named one of the parameters, just call &{$func{$param}} (after checking if it exists....)

    well according to the article (which appears to be very scantly clad wrt details IMHO) they paid out around 1/4th of what they got in on insurance, i've never had a problem with something shipped ups, so i don't know how well their claims department works, but i've also not heard any bad press about it, so i assume that as a general rule they are charging more than they need to and are making a hefty profit, but not skimping on service.

    why not write the code in perl such that when the program starts it reads the code in and then executes from refrence to subs?


    (i've actually done that, and i understand what i do in my own code, but i'd like to see somebody else try to explain it :)

    is $40/mo from timewarner (socal.rr.com)
    i'm not sure of the download speeds, but they're pretty good generally....

    and i've personally uploaded stuff in excess of 100 kbytes/sec to a guy at an university in canada, usually its only around 40kbytes/s though, but thats not bad at all :)

    internal ftp traffic on my network only gets up to about 200kbytes/sec anyhow, so i don't imagine that my cable modem is the only bottle neck

    Perhaps you could do something w/ a bandwidth restriction rather than flat out blocking it?

    But other than that, I can't dispute your decision, as it was made by examining network traffic to see where all the usage was going, and then determining whether the content had actual value wrt the intended use of the network, and a decision was made based on that, not because they were sending mp3s per se, but because (for non-music majors) mp3s have nothing to do with the educational process.


    (but maybe i'm just projecting :)
