    More like "helped a couple of bloggers locate...". There's no reason to doubt that the US and China already knew about it. Still says a lot about how much information is online these days.

    I'd like to see them start a real effort to come out with a competitive version of desktop Linux.

    Red Hat's business model is giving away the server software and selling support. They seem to be doing pretty well with that. Fedora seems like a way to keep the door open if enough paying customers want to migrate their desktops to Linux but not a market they are pursuing today.

    Yes, that could happen. But look at the number of bystanders killed by these guys. You reduce the number of innocent people killed if you go after the bad guys when you can.

    Could've been one of the many agencies they communicate with noticed probes coming from their systems- NIH, FDA, CMS, CDC, etc. But it was more likely an agency that's responsible for stopping espionage by other governments.

    In general, Conservatives try to minimize government intrusion and control of our lives. So this type of bill would have to come from that side of the aisle.

    Liberals (a.k.a.Progressives) would push for more control without requiring justification or checks and balances - which is exactly the problem with the EPA in the current administration. They're pushing a political agenda through executive mandate rather than enforcing laws passed by Congress.

    The problem is that if Reagan had been fair he would have said "Many of you are better off now than when I entered office mainly because that was early in this boom cycle, a cycle that I have little to no control over."

    That would have been a silly thing for him to say, because he asked that question in 1980 when he was running against the incumbent Jimmy Carter. The question touched a nerve because Carter's bumbling made a mess of the economy.

    We hear them a lot on /., usually in reference to some policy made "for the children" or "to protect us". Save it for someone who cares.

    Interesting response, because the protesters are doing exactly that by using the reef as an excuse to hide their true agenda, which is an attempt by Global Warming Alarmists to block the export of an evil fossil fuel (coal) for use in India.

    I'd be happy with a log of what was destroyed. Maybe pictures/scans of the drive just before it was destroyed if the stuff on it was really important. Keeping thousands of wiped drives around so you can go look at them occasionally is kind of pointless

    Could they have actually reached the mantle that close to the surface? I would believe they tapped into a volcano, but mantle doesn't sound right. Crust there is something like 15 km??

    That depends on what them definition of "is" is. A government can grant whatever legal rights it chooses. Natural rights don't really apply in this context since by definition IP is a legal right.

    The guy was charged with fraud. It happens that the fraud he was committing involved claims about how he could teach people to beat or use polygraphs. If he was busted for claiming he could teach people how to win the lottery this would not be in the news. Now he's making up claims about a government conspiracy as his defense.
