Speaking of filtering for others... I don't - but I do run my own little mail server.

Even after implementing all the postfix uce rules and adding in the RBL's - and using spamassassin... I still saw some spam slipping in...

So I hacked together a tiny little perl script that monitors my mail log... after any IP address gets more than 3 "554" messages (generated by the RBL's) the source IP gets a lovely little teergrube.

I waste their resources and prevent them from trying to deliver any other shit that might get through spamassassin...

Script can be found at here but is only good for postfix/linux/iptables peoples.

    WAY above my head! 8-)

I'll have to rely on someone-cleverer-than-me to see it, devide it's a good idea and run with it!

I guess /. is as good a place as any for that to possibly occur!

  5. RBL's and Firewalling on O'Reilly Article on Spam Defense · · Score: 2, Interesting

I wrote a tiny little perl script that tails the maillog and firewalls (kinda teergrubes really) hosts who get a "554 Service Unavailable" more than 3 times.

I'm not coder, so it doesn't expire entries... I'm looking for someone to help make this work even better. I love the thought of causing spammers pain - and this could do that.

You can get the script from my webpage at http://www.jasonjordan.com.au

I was very surprised to discover both AP and CNN beat Slashdot to this story.

    Very disappointing.
