You don't have to occupy a country to benefit from its resources. We did a very good job mangling Latin American economies without maintaining an occupying force.
MPEG LA collects royalties on the big green - large scale - for-profit - commercial sale and distribution.
Once those MPEG LA patented formatted files on your blog get popular and reach download numbers to attract the attention of the MPEG LA lawyers, you'll get a bill. Doesn't have to be commercial.
Regardless of anyones personal opinion of computer OS's, Windows still rules in both the personal and business OS level. And I don't care what anyone else has to say on the level of 'but, but, Macs are slowly gaining.' Thats great for Mac. But here's a good dose of reality. OSX was released in March of 2001. Its now June of 2010, just over 9 years later. Mac has been able to improve its market share from 1-2% to 6-9%. That means less then one in 10 computers is a Mac even after 9 years and one hell of an aggressive marketing campaign (we've all seen those 'Pc
vs Mac' commercials).
When I was in school, the Radio Shack TRS80 ruled in both the personal and business OS level.
It was such a shame that I only had access to an Atari 800XL with only 20% share of the market.
Yes but they're using Macs. Why not just use netbooks w/Windows 7 Starter? Cheaper for taxpayers and parents alike, and Windows 7 at least prepares them for the corporate world.
Maybe their goals are higher than creating corporate equivalent ditch diggers.
Is it wrong to hope that I someday see a black and white combat video on Wikileaks of an Apache gunship pointed at the blown out wall of some skyscraper with a wounded telemarketer or auto-dialer operator laying next to a headset and the gunners voice come over saying, "Just pick up the #%&$ing headset, just give me a reason, motha$%#@er!"
Not even a little.
Then they can send snipers after the MBAs who think this stuff is a great idea that deserves a signing bonus.
Give the locals a fair share of the toxic waste.
Don't forget China shares a border with Afghanistan
And owns the mortgage on the USA.

There's the secret occupation force.
Yes, but which taxpayers will benefit: Afghani or USA ones ?
It will benefit the gov't of Haliburton.
The studio is busy filming silly episodes of "NASA Edge"
he moon, you see, is a harsh mistress.
The wife is worse when she finds out you have a mistress.
Sooner or later Earth is doomed. If we are still all here when that happens we go extinct.
Sometimes I wonder if that would be a bad thing.
Morons like you traded all that for a welfare state."
$738 Billion was spent on "National Defense." Compare that to NASA's budget.
Don't forget the funding of that idiot "Blair" on "NASA Edge."

It was that other guy.
Yeah as long as you don't mount, you should be okay.
That's what SHE said.
How do you think Goth chicks are created?
but seriously, how useful is a laptop in high school math?
Mathematica doesn't work to well on construction paper.

Using tax-payer funds to subsidize personal Macintosh purchases?
I guess that means you are advocating subsidizing Microsoft purchases instead?
According to wikipedia average visual acuity of healthy eyes is 20/16 to 20/12
All hail the holy wikipedia
I am shortsighted, and with my glasses on I could still read the bottom line on my most recent eye test, a few months back.
Isn't that the primary function of glasses?
For some of us letting a potential client deal with google voice is not a very good option..
Google Voice is a phone number that routes to a phone of your choosing.
What is there that a client has to "deal" with?
I returned one of them (they give you a number to call) and asked why my cell was getting spammed.
You got a working call back number?
Lucky you!
Nobody likes a telemarketer.
Not true.
I'd like a dead telemarketer.

And in some cases, crashes have occurred because the pilot took over control and flew into a mountain.
Eventually, commercial planes will be unpiloted - pilots are expensive. I'm guessing this will be a good test of that eventuality.
A lot of the new ones already are.
The pilots are just on board for PR.
