I hate photographers and their over-blown, baseless egos.
On this, I agree 100%. Maybe it's just me, but every professional photographer I know tends to be completely over the top when it comes to copyright. The level of vitriol is worse than Apple fanboys. I don't know why that is, but it's damned annoying, and gives all photographers a bad name.
I can imagine the rage though as you already said:
it's trivial to change a painting. With a photograph, you have no such leeway. You must take everything in the frame as-is.
Sometimes that as-is happens out of PURE LUCK and there's no way anyone ever can make the same frame ever ever. Imagine the person in the picture is your wife and some dude in Thailand teef it for a brochure.
Exactly! These little nerds piss me off. Man I better make my life more "practical" by constantly reproducing.. hey not a bad thing lol. Let's make a Core2Duo more practical by constantly putting it under 100% load, and make my pet practical by I don't know wtf to do with goldfish lol.
It's pretty impossible to own real guns in Hong Kong but one time I had 14 airsoft guns and enjoyed every bit of target shooting on weekends. It's like golf! How practical is golf?
Hey bro, I am down here too:) All real and need food and pay taxes too. Don't get me wrong for a trekkie hippy:)
But let's do some thought experiments related to your points.
Does spaceflight so far justify ANY of its costs? In other words, did more money came out of it than money spent? If yes, who paid the money, and who got paid? Where did that "money" come from?
You see what I am getting at? Yes it costs money. Yes if it helps us down here by all means go for it. But you must realize we invented "money". Where exactly did that money come from? Was it printed? Did some alien inject us with more resource so we can sell more resource to.. who? To ourselves? Or to China?
I am very naive when it comes to economics. But do you know anyone that would do something without getting paid? Do you know anyone who'd do something without a clear "goal"? Why did they do it? Have you done something which you know will lose you money but did it anyway? Why? Why do Bill Gates start the foundation?
I am not saying we should be like star trek, just pointing out that we might not even go back to the Moon again, let alone Mars, because there's really no profit in that. You could make more money selling toilet paper to China, or selling money (lol). Why bother with Mars?
I watch ST:TNG like Shakespeare. Good play nonetheless. As real as Toy Story lol:D
Instead of being a money pit, it will be a money generator. And that is where real progress is at.
I know everyone here knows this and ponder on the below once in a while but let me say this again in case someone never thought about it..
You notice this whole thread, the money spent, received, progress, the whole construct, is like a tiny little noise on this tiny little round ball of rock. Debating whether spaceflight is "profitable" only makes sense within this ball of rock. Benefiting us rock people, to do more within the confine of the ball.
The Apollo mission, can be seen as PR for the cold war, benefiting the people on the rock. But to our dear astronauts who'd been on the moon, I can confidently guess that the gratitude they have is something beyond which doesn't benefit anyone here. It wasn't money, technology, making your boss more money. It was the pure love and happiness of being "out there". To even start to go to space, and be in space, we must stop thinking about how it'll benefit us down here. There're many things you can do instead of flying to space. Bill Gates' doing some good without spaceflight. Spaceflight opens our minds. It does not buy you a Royale with Cheese.
1. We can't even agree on our own ethics as a species. The day we have a unified ethics system, is the day we can START wasting time working on a Universal System.
2. Ethics is a human construct. For the non-human on earth, ethics does not exist. For outside of earth, even the Romulans and Vulcans are different from us.
My suggestion for the guy is get a Wii, play some games and stop writing trash.
And I agree. Spent 8 years from 1998 to 2006 on UO. Every other MMORPG I tried, guildwars, eve, etc. Didn't give me that warm feeling when I first started UO. Walking up from Vesper to Minoc and didn't know what I will see. And I tried hard, pretty hardcore I'd say spending way beyond normal hours on each games to fully explore the possibilities. Nothing came close to UO.
There's something about playing a medieval fantasy from Richard Garriott who knows his swords and knives. The amount of detail in the games, and mostly the carried over legacy of the Ultima series was what made UO so enjoyable. But even that only lasted a few years. The last few years of my subscription is basically just banking (chats at the bank), and script mining for fun.
What lol'ed me wasn't the laptop batteries but the batteries of the plane! You know, flying a plane needs batteries too. What about those? Are those safe?
omfg bro, you know what I hate about my copy of Dirt 2 off steam? Windows live. The single most crazy thing is the microphone hogging from Live, Steam, X-Fi and the Windows UAA. It's completely insane. You will have no idea which mixer is governing the mic, which muted it. It's totally nuts. Try talk to your friends inside the game using the mic in these games, you'll see.
That's so racist!
Hello? I live in Hong Kong and I travel to Japan and wasn't required to fingerprint. WTF?

I agree that anyone that says the purpose of a firearm is to kill is taking an extremely narrow view.
I agree bro! I use it to club people. I never shoot them. ;)
What friends?? I don't have friends you insensitive clod. Knight to E6, your move..

Yes sir. And that's the sad position we're in at the moment :)

Ok back to Star Trek TNG :)
I am sorry bro but this is EXACTLY what we're driving for at the moment, we're no where close to "democratically elected Hong Kong government".

That's what holding us back.

My fav is the "educated stupid" bit. I read that thing once a year to remind myself I am still alive lol.

I agree, The setup in the article sucks donkey balls.

mod parent up.

Parent +1 insightful please. Exactly. The work we do everyday is highly dynamic not because of the programs or news. It's the people.

And this, my friend, would be exactly how Bruce Lee would've said it. Well done :)
