So... uh, you have fun investigating that. No wonder this guy needs so many batteries...

I first signed up with emusic specifically because of TMBG and that was like 2 years ago, I ended up downloading about 7 gigs from them. Now I'd say that about 90% of my music collection is actually legal. Lot's of independent stuff ska, punk, reggae kind of stuff.

  3. Borg eye... necessary? on Microsoft Plans An Overhaul For Patch System · · Score: 0, Redundant

Okay, so given their history I'm sure a large number of you (and a big part of me) could see how microsoft might be making these changes to force patches and upgrades on people to enforce all sorts of bad stuff like DRM and all that. Or even if the people at microsoft who studied the current patch system and are sincerely looking for a better alternative, microsoft will surely use it for something evil...

But still... is the borg icon absolutely necessary even when there aren't really any aspects of evilness in the story? Especially since if the same exact story came out for another OS everyone would be fine with it.

First of all... He worked at the CompuUSA in Albany?? I've gone there so many times, and to think I could have met a (semi-)famous person.

Second of all I remember trying aimster about two years ago and thinking how great it would be to have a tool in conjunction with aim so that I could share files with my friends on my buddy list.

I soon found out that aimster had very very little integration with aim, and aim's file transfer capabilities. They made it seem like it was almost like an (unauthorized) add on component for aim or something. I emailed their tech support confused and wondering where the integration with aim was, and told them what it looked like to me. The response I got back basically admitted to exactly what I thought. I was actually kinda stunned at the honesty.

I haven't even thought about aimster in years, maybe it's worth a new look.

Did you even read the linked story? Do you even know what these executives do? None of them write the scripts, they just select them. I didn't say anything about the lord of the rings books, I was talking specifically about the movie. My point was that the same culture everyone is so apalled at, is exactly what got these movies made, regardless of where the script came from.

And while you might not like the movies produced, I was obviously not talking about you, I was talking about the general slashdot crowd.

Just remember: these "trolls" are the same one's who made the matrix and lord of the rings. Movies which the people on slashdot seem to worship. I mean people act like keyanu reeves is their savior, when just a few years ago people made fun of him because his "hype" was bad.

For your personal edification, a few words from George Washington's farewell address, 1796:
Yes, thank you, I know all about George Washington's isolationist stance, I took high school history as well. Regardless I'm not saying that I necessarily agree or disagree with an isolationist stand point. I was merely stating that based on this administration's stance towards international treaties (most notably Kyoto and anti-ballistic missle) I really don't think they'll care much about any other treaties... even Geneva. I guarentee you that our government violates it every single day.
It appears that you for one are against getting ourselves entangled with foreign affairs, that's fine with me, but then we shouldn't be in this war to begin with. And by the way I don't think abiding by international treaties relating to human rights and whatnot really entangles us with other countries, by the time we get there we're already in too deep. -Steven Willis

  10. Re:huh? on Photographer Fired For Digitally Altering Photo · · Score: 2, Insightful

So, despite the fact that the government had absolutely NOTHING whatsoever to do with this story, even if they did, the government cannot digitally alter wartime photos because it violates the Geneva Convention. Granted, there are other things that one might be inclined NOT to trust the government for, but this is NOT one of them. Please move along...

Do you seriously believe that the current administration cares at all about international treaties and conventions? Just look at the treaties we've pulled out of so far.
