How about high USE costs? AT&T Wireless seems to think that I personally am going to pay the entire cost of building their network - $5.99 for a megabyte of data a month?

And meanwhile they're happily signing up Blackberries with unlimited data for peanuts.

Is it any wonder the average joe is telling them what to do with it?

Nope. Haven't written a check in well over a year now. Where the hell you been?

Only thing they were good for was delaying payment a few days, and now the damn banks have permission to just send images of them for fulfillment.

Damn glad I'm not a student anymore! I can't count the number of times I took advantage of the fact that my bank processed deposits before withdrawals!

You know, I read that, and I'd have to say that yes, I DO have emails that I cherish.

In fact, just last night I was upgrading my computer, and in moving personal files noticed two .tgz archives from about 1997 that contained all my personal files from a server at an ISP I ran at the time.

Included in those archives was all my email folders. I spent three hours reading them, especially the ones from my wife, who was my girlfriend at the time.

It reminded me of a lot of good times, and I do cherish those files. And the chances that I would have come across those missives had they been handwritten? About nil.

Perhaps trying to throw people off and make them think it's running WinCE?

    If so, that's kinda scummy.

It will always be a profitable business, because it costs basically nothing to send millions of emails out - if you sell one penis pump for $29.95, you've made profit!

You know, Novell (as they've done several times in the past) really dropped the ball. I used UnixWare in the 1995 timeframe to run worldwide remote offices for a hotel reservation app. Other than the fact that it was unapologetically System V-ish, it was a pretty damn nice OS.

I wonder where Novell would be right now if they had done then what they're doing now, but with UnixWare - merge the Novell file/print into it, and end up with a damn nice app server that frankly would have kicked the crap out of NT4.

Betcha they would have a hell of a lot less Novell->MS migrations under their belt than they do now!

    I would agree with reservations.

It's just too bad that the point-and-click mentality that Microsoft has created means that it's almost never deployed in a secure fashion.

In my recent testing, however, I would have to say that Windows 2003 server is orders of magnitude more secure out of the box.

Philips decides they're not going to bother with these things anymore, and totally orphans you. Just ask anybody who bought a Velo 500 handheld PDA what they think of Philips. I bought one the first day they were available ($540). 1.5 years later, when CE 3.0 came out, other manufacturers were offering $10 upgrades, but Philips "had no plans to offer an upgrade" and shortly thereafter killed their whole CE handheld line.

I'll never buy another Philips product again for the rest of my life.
