    Depends. It could be that the part will basically be used to repackage data so that a on-phone app can deal with it.

    Consider their demonstrated use case of a exercise bike feeding activity data to a phone app that then use that as input for a game.

    The basic problem is not money, there will always be money. The problem is that as corporations grow the minimum level of income projected before a project gets the green light increases.

    Just consider "micro-loans". The sums involved there are small in western eyes, but a very big deal to those that can get them. But ordinary banks will not bother as the ROI is not up to their inflated standards.

    Who cares if they like the idea, nobody has a god given right to earning money into infinity. This is the same shitty argument that was used against the first public libraries back in the day.

    And the same cenario applies to music and movies/tv-series as well. Those that are most likely to download copies are the ones that have the least discretionary spending ability, and the most free time to sort thru the various sites and systems for what they want.

    In a way its like the reverse of micropayment MMOs. Where one can spend hours grinding some monster or other for xp, or pay the company for a time limited boost to the xp rate. End result is the same. But the question is what's more valuable to you, time or money.

    Indeed. I think there is a actual confession by a MS rep saying that they would rather see someone use a unlicensed copy of Windows and Office then switch to Linux or similar.

    Except if someone comes up with a nice "ipod to android" converter. Still, part of the appeal of the ipod docks is that Apple have kept the shape of the products more or less the same. This allows just about any generation to fit into the docks.

    So mainly it is done as a way to remove the friction of wheels vs track?

    And it seems that any kind of track switching on these would be troublesome, so are we talking dedicated tracks between two high volume locations?

    Indeed. Btw, think the main reason for them being used over water was that the max altitude of the ground effect puts them at risk of running into all kinds of natural and man made objects. Also, it is likely not fun to be below one of them when they pass by.

    There is also a mention somewhere that a core lib of Amiga os was written by one guy over 2 days in virtual isolation. He only had to get one design issue clarified with a superior during the process.

    Iirc, a Swedish company Made an attempt at selling mobile phones using this as the sensor system for their touch screen phones. Was back around 2000 or so.

    i wonder if something similar could be done using static cling effects. But then i guess that would mess up the use of Capacitive screens (unless the system was clever enough to eliminate the noise from the active sections).
