In summary, open source Java is fine, open source almost-Java is not.
You mean, aside from the fact that they are exactly the same language and both provide a large number of the same classes in the java.* namespace, they are completely different?
..is acting as a business in competition with TimeWarner (and others), then TimeWarner cannot put them out of business.
The same way TimeWarner could not put Embarq out of business for competing.
Am I missing something here?
It does sound cool which is why people are interested.
You should contribute some of your thoughts though to the project instead of here if you're feeling generous. : )
...really don't want to exclude themselves from the world of pirating do they?
Any kind of copyrighted content (from any individual) is fair game in their world and that includes content they are not interested in.
This then becomes content that competes on a level they have excluded themselves from (the pirating world).
So they must want to take ownership of all content somehow (capitalist approach), and I even remember learning about their streaming music royalties on non copyright content.
I'm not an expert obviously so I may be wrong.
It seems though that the world the RIAA/MPAA wish to destroy must also be of great interest at the same time.
What if I have three pages of documentation open in a web browser, my IDE, and other software development programs running?
I can't envision a poor typist switching applications, editing code, and using other shortcuts without being miserably unproductive.
Being miserably unproductive would definitely effect the quality of the code.
Opps; forgot to add that those are two posts from you on this.
Legacy hardware still in use all over the world?
Dating wasn't hard enough.
Woman: "I love that fact that you're successful in your career..."
Man: "I hate the fact that your grandfather had green eyes..."
Woman: "Well played sir..."
Man: "Check please..."
Then the abomination that is this date goes home to compare notes on blood sample preservation methods.
The best part was the wine...

Price and variety are two reasons why I wouldn't.
For some reason OS X the device of my choosing seems more appealing.
I guess Sigmund Freud was a big proponent of cocaine.
Had the War on Drugs existed (and been successful) back then we wouldn't have to keep hearing his crazy cocaine induced theories.

You can always take the code and morph it into what you want.
It's highly unlikely Firefox will die, and you'll never know you're using it in the future.
For those on Ubuntu:
$ sudo apt-get install chromium-browser
Also add the following to /etc/apt/sources.list:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/chromium-daily/ppa/ubuntu intrepid/jaunty main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/chromium-daily/ppa/ubuntu intrepid/jaunty main
It crashes quite a bit (it's not ready) but it's nice to follow its development.
Can the government "compete with free market business"?
The citizens of NC pay taxes to that same government, but not to TimeWarner.

Hopefully this would encourage Linux game development.

Why must you bring facts into the scrutiny?
I find the mere idea of fact ridiculous.
