That's definitely my favorite one. I was watching some Voyager episodes with my friends and I told them it was a Star Trek rule that if a bunch of key characters and then some random ensign beamed down the ensign would usually die. They didn't believe me until it happened 5 episodes in a row :)

It gave him the ability to justify any of his actions with "it's for the war on terror" and most people are afraid enough to take it. Hopefully he won't cause too much more damage before he's done in 08...

Modern high-end chips can draw a lot more than 70w. My Athlon x2 4400 is rated for 110W max and I know there are pentiums that use more than that. Also, there isn't that much of a difference between idle and load. The power consumption difference between load and idle for my system (just cpu, not gpu) is only about 25-30W.

I have an Inspiron 9300 (basically the same as the e1705 but single core cpu) and it does have very nice sound, noticably better than any other laptop I've seen. However, it doesn't have very big speakers. I've taken it apart a few times and the speakers are about .5in x 1in x 2.5in. That might be large for laptop speakers, but I think biggest difference is made by the small subwoofer on the bottom. I can turn off the subwoofer and when it's off my laptop doesn't sound much better than most others, but with the subwoofer on, it removes the main weakness of laptop sounds and gives a nice bass sound.

Everyone I know has cable, not because we don't have landlines but because it's 8x the speed of DSL. Cable from Comcast here is 6mbps, and even though it's significantly more expensive than Verizon's DSL, I only know a few people who have DSL since it's only 768kbps and feels dreadfully slow by comparison.

I have a Dell Inspiron 9300 that I just upgraded to the Hitachi 7200rpm drive in the review. The speed is very nice. You might be content with a slower drive (like I was), but I could never go back to a 5400rpm or lower drive. With a utility from hitachi to put the drive in low power mode, I still get 4-5 hours of battery life and the drive still performs much better than a 5400rpm drive. When I'm plugged in, it automatically goes into full performance mode, not parking the heads or spinning down and it's even better. I've noticed that other factors (CPU use, LCD brightness) have a much bigger effect on my battery life.
