  1. Almost got to see it... on Shuttle Discovery Lifts Off · · Score: 1

I was just in Orlando this past week, 45 minutes away from Cape Canaveral. I flew home last night, so if it had launched just a day or two earlier I would've been able to see it live...darn. Either way, I'm glad that this launch went smoothly, any more problems would be very very bad for NASA at this point.

  2. Re:It's about damn time. on Opera Embedding BitTorrent Client · · Score: 1

Why is this so annoying to you? If you have a BT client installed, FF/IE will automatically launch the client when you click on a torrent link, so inbuilt BT support won't really make it any easier for you.

  3. RTFA on Man Arrested for Using Open Wireless Network · · Score: 4, Insightful

If you actually read the article you'll see that he was sitting outside someone's house in his SUV using his laptop. That is quite different from simply tacking onto your neighbor's network, he was outside the house sitting there for the sole purpose of leeching off his internet connection. While the Microsoft analogy is a bit stiff, at least read the article before you all go crazy.

  4. Two is right on Double Your Fun with DoubleSight · · Score: 1

Two is perfect for me. I have a 19" crt as my main monitor, placed directly in front of me. To the right of that, I have a 17" crt that I use for tasks that I like to have available all the time, like IM and winamp. I do all my main work on the monitor on front of me, and to change music or send a friend an IM, I just have to glance to the right and there everything is, no minimizing or moving windows.

I can understand why the prosecutor wouldn't want to subject the kid to all the media attention, but he shouldn't hold back from pressing charges. We can't let the "presumably already troubled kid" off the hook just because he's troubled. The fact that he may not have been thinking clearly or acting of his own free will doesn't make him any less dangerous if he is the one who started the fire.

  9. Umm on Search Engines for Handwritten Documents · · Score: 5, Insightful

The most interesting part is that the papers are scanned versions of the originals and the search tool actually recognizes the handwritten text from these images.

How else would it search handwritten documents? Am I missing something here?

  13. Re:Hard Drives on Time Warp Computer Pricing Revealed · · Score: 1

I'm the same way, I went 13GB, 40GB, 120GB, 250GB. From the sizes, I'm guessing I could probably be your kid. Also of note is that I think each drive was cheaper than the one before it. I'm not sure about the 13GB because it came with my first computer, but my 40GB was $200, my 120GB was $180, and my 250GB was $150. It's really hard to put limits on how large hard drives will go. When I got my 40GB hard drive, I was sure I'd never fill it up; now I have my 120 and 250 in my computer and both almost full (digital video). This is all over a span of only 3 or 4 years, it's almost scary to think where we'll be in another 10 years.
