    And yet, have *we* actually _learned_ anything?

    I would question if the we which creates a human mission to mars will not be the same we working on the ISS. And thus doubt if any useful knowledge would be passed on.

    And I would also question if any learnings (I hate that non-word) from the ISS would be applicable. Take your example of the toilet. The requirements for a Mars mission may be different to that of the ISS in terms of space available, crew size (utilisation capacity), recycling capability etc etc etc. Which means it needs to be designed differently.

    So given that it will be a different designer making a different product (with similar functionality), how useful will the prior experience actually be?

    How many planes have blown up in the USA lately? None. So the TSA is 100% effective!

    Whereas everywhere else in the world, without the gropings by the TSA, planes are exploding out of the sky daily, almost hourly!

    IIRC this has gone on throughout history. I recall that in the 1978 series "The Body in Question", Johnathan Miller discussed how medicine has frequently used an analogy of the then latest technology to explain the workings of the mind and body. In particular I remember (for obvious reasons) the 19th century looms controlled by giant punched cards. Worth looking up if you are interested.

    Is there any chance that the bacteria that is prevalent in one part of the world nudge people in that part of the world to act in certain ways?

    Most people want higher resolution. HD was a compelling shift in tv technology. One look and people saw it was better.

    And yet, I remember discussions here (and I think there are some above) saying HD content is not compelling for them. Or that their wife couldn't tell the difference.

    Seems like people are different.

    Do you really think so?

    I wouldn't judge it to be a failure by any means, but clearly the market hasn't wholeheartedly embraced it either.

    I'd say that without the forced factory installs, the current 17-18% would be much lower, and that must be a disappointing "voluntary" take-up rate for Microsoft.

    It still smacks of shoddy implementation though:
    (1) Why you would still need to CTRL-ALT-DEL to logon to your tablet - unless your tablet is a poorly disguised PC?
    (2) Why couldn't they rename it to the "logon key" or "home key" or "Start key" since it isn't CTRL-ALT-DEL any more?

    They solved that for the HP Tablet by putting a CTRL-ALT-DEL button on the side. Seriously.

    "Computer systems are constantly advancing and the legislation used here was specifically brought in to deal with those who are using the internet to commit crime.

    Wasn't this legislation introduced specifically to fight terrorists?
