    well then you would only have 1 second that a call could not be connected. This is in the control channel, not the data channel. Calls that are already established will stay connected, but for *1* second, people would not be able to make a call. In order to DOS the network, this must be sustained.

    true, and if other providers are like cingular, you can just write a script to go through a given range of telephone prefixes. with cingular, an email to 1231231234@my.cingular.com will result in a text message being sent to 123-123-1234's cell phone.

    I am talking about dynamic data, if a school is destroyed, it is not going to be generating any more data, and you can restore from your (hopefully) nightly incremental off site backups ( in a vault, further than 1.4 miles away). If a disaster hits a bank brance, the other banks are still going to generate data. With a school, after you rebuild, you can restore the data before more students are enrolled/charging books to their accounts.

    This is simular to the new tech they are using with WRC racing. They will show a CGI overlay that they can flyby and zoom out to show the cars in relation to each other as far as time goes ( they race one at a time, and are timed).

    It is a college, not a financial institution. If the school is hit by anything large enough to level 1.4 miles worth of buildings, school is probably not going to be in session. Now if you are doing online trading/banking and a hurricane hits the south east, people in the north west still want their money. If a school gets hit, the only people inconvenienced by a network outage are going to be the telecommuter students.

    They seem to do alright with commercials, if the RIAA pulls this bullshit, I would LOVE to see Apple start a production company, and cut the RIAA out entirely. This is VERY wishfull thinking,but it is what I would do.

    I did read the article, and from what I gather, this is just as much a commercial idea as it is for children. They intend to make it for chilren, and they also intend to liscense it for commercial use ( they say for $200) with some procedes going to lower the cost for students.But if you read the article this is not a product, it is a proof of concept prototype.

    You are correct. Helical antennas are set up for circular polarization. they are usefull in ground-->sat-->ground communications, as most satellites are spinning, and a typical yagi/parabolic dish( single axis polorized, horizontal, or vertical) would create a gain doppler effect.

    Static meters, you can get them quite cheap(less than $400). Firefighters, and industrial saftey personel will use them to insure the absense of ignition sorces, especialy when using air motors, which are not as prone to cause ignition when pumping flammable fluids, but if not properly grounded, they will generate static electricity.

    Could the admin have been influenced (via loads of cash) to cause this confusion. Remove or modigy all MPAA/RIAA ip addresses, and make sure they do not go anywhere else for updates? If I was one of the above orginizations, that is what I would do.

    Why would a business invest in software that has a set patch schedule. Would they buy a fleet of cars that need to be brought in to fix a safty recall monthly?
    Sure, a safety fix deals with life and death, but look how much money some of the corporations stand to loose to this bullshit. Look at Caterpillar.

    Working as a volunteer in Corpus Christi, Tx ( American Bank Center) everyone was glued to their hand held radios........Untill they turned the Jumbotron to CNN. There were few listening to radios after that. Things may be differint at the astro dome, and on a larger scale, but I think people would rather watch CNN/MSNBC/FOX/ETC.
