The Wausau School District in Wausau Wisconsin is taking a HUGE leap in this area. They are opening up a new kind of Charter High School called the Wausau EGL (Engineering Global Leadership) Acadamy. The kids will be doing college level learning at the high school level. The whole concept is the kids will learn math, science, engineering, history, etc.. in a different way. They will learn things like math and history at the same time, science,history and english at the same time. Think about it when you took science didn't you learn some history around the scientists, when you wrote papers in class weren't you using english skills? This high school will heavily focus on math, science and engineering. The kids will be involved in "core" academic learning and "project based" learning. Meaning they will do individual AND group projects. They will also be required to do an individual project each year as well as a Senior Capstone project. They will also be colaborting with students in OTHER countries to do GROUP projects. They will also be doing internships with local companies, as well as taking trips abroad to do projects with students and companies in other countries. This charter school is geared towards kids who are motivated to math, science and engineering and to help motivate kids to these areas. They also have to keep a "portfolio" of the projects they have done, they will have video of their presentations. Top people from local and not local companies will actually help grade their work. When they graduate they will have a comlete portfolio including video of everything they did. It will show practicle application of what they learned. The University of Wisconsin Madison is extremely excited about this program. I am sure kids that complete their high school in this program with excellent grades will have no problem getting into some of the top engineering schools anywhere. They have brought in teachers from all kinds of disciplines. One has worked in engineering in multiple countries besides the U.S. We are enrolling our son in this school for the coming school year. I work for one of THE largest health insurance companies and I can say HIPPA is a FEDERAL law you don't have HIPPA covered and not HIPPA covered. If a provider is NOT abiding under HIPPA they are breaking the law. So in all actuality it will be anyone not employing encryption. The way my company is "applying" encryption is using whole disk encrytion on all servers, desktops and laptops. Granted it's not as good as they say it is. Anyone with Linux could mount the darn drivess and extract everything off of it. Please these comercial disk encrytpion schemes are more for peace of mind than actual protection. So really your personal health information is not safe if stored electronically. It's actually safer stored on paper and locked in filing cabinets behind locked doors in a locked office. Basically they are giving free rides to health folks if the data gets stolen. You hear more about electronic data theft than actual physical data theft. When is the last time you heard on the news about someone breaking into someplace and stealing thousands of files from a health insurance company or a provider, or even credit card companies?
Having done hiring I have found that 90% of the Indians I have hired were inferior. Many if not most LIED on their resumes, they had been coached on how to answer interview questions specific to the technoligies they were interviewing for. When you throw a real world situation at them and ask them how they would solve it - they freeze up and get that "deer in the headlights" look. When you hire ones that make it taht far - you find out many times what they -really- know - jack squat! Things they claim they knew on their resume and were able to answer "coached" answeres they can't really do. I had one that actually would go out "lift" code from open source projects - remove the copyrights and drop it into our code and put his name to it. He was quickly ESCORTED from the building when this was finally discoverd and we had to go back through -all- code with his name on it and remove it - because we weren't gaurenteed it wasn't "lifted" code.
Europeans I have found are superior when it comes to technology related matters - especially programming. Of all the Europeans hired only one or two didn't work out. Unfortunately I have found Europeans better than most American programmers. Usually when I hire university grads I have them mentored by the European programmers. I tell the grad - "take most of what you learned in class and dump it. You'll learn real world now.

I think wireless sucks! I get more reliability out of Ethernet than I do wireless. I have a wirelss hub in the house and it at best gets 49% reception and it drops connectivity constantly. I even added high gain antenna's. Wired ethernet is far more reliable - I don't get dropped connections with it.

I have been using Safarai for Windows 3.2 for a while (use it for testing compatability with web pages I build). I downloaded the Beta 4 and ran it through the same web pages I normally do for testing compatability and found Beta 4 ran slower than the Beta 3.2. So I uninstalled Beta4 and went back to Beta 3.2.

I have been using Safarai for Windows 3.2 for a while (use it for testing compatability with web pages I build).
