What will will do for businesses putting redhat on the desktop in regard to the RedHat trademark? Are they going to have to pay for it online, or will they drop all the trademark stuff for RedHat Linux?

Maybe this will make RedHat make like Debian in regards to trademarking, etc. Maybe not since they should still be selling the support packages.

Only getting 28.8 kbps is nothing. I am using POTS FL and with the poor wiring, I am now getting 4800 baud. Whenever I want it fixed, they say, "These lines are not meant for data use." I would love to at least get 28.8 kbps, but no.

In my area, there will soon be microwave internet, with rates about the same or better than the DSL available 10 miles toward town. :-)

I would just wait and you may get something like that in your area sometime :-). In the meantime, use a text based browser such as lynx or links. ;-)

  4. Re:linux confusion on EvilWM - Minimalist Window Manager · · Score: 1

If you are wanting ONE default one, I think redhat defaults to a branded GNOME desktop which is very easy to use. Many of the linux distros out there have a default. For example on Mandrake, it defaults to KDE. If you want just a default, you could use that. IF you don't like that one, here is the advantage, you can pick/install other ones. KDE is a lot like windoughs and GNOME is too.

Why can't they just have a checkbox when you install Windoughs for if you don't want these things (such as IE or WMP)? Linux Distrubutions usally don't make you install a certain browser (depends on the distro). If they do this, they probably will make you enter the product key 6 more times per product checked to not be installed;-).

Why is Taiwan the only country who does this? Why can't other countries. But anyways, they are not forced to pirate, since you can always install an open-source or free Operating System instead. If you don't like those, you don't have to have a computer either.

I still can't believe that Microsoft would do anything that would get in the way of their precious money that they worship everyday. I guess it depends how Taiwan forced them, maybe by aircraft or helicopter? ;-)

I don't mind being corrected. Now I learned something. I just thought Apple was trying to do something like they did to start with with the iPod. Now the iPod has a Windoughs version, which I wouldn't know why it needs to have a different version since the connections should be the same, or is it just different software included. This may be considered offtopic.

  10. Competition on Five Years Later, Newton Still Going Strong · · Score: 1

The Newton, like many other products have had competition. I guess Apple's Newton probably couldn't keep up with the rising popularity of Palm. Correct me if I am wrong, but can't you only sync a Newton with a Mac. I have seen some kits that allow you to sync the Palm with a serial connector to the mac serial connector on pre-USB macs. If this is the case, why would you buy the Newton for a Mac only, when you could buy the Palm to run on both!

I am sure they need more tax money. Maybe to buy their own ISPs and more Porsches, some air conditioned dog houses (like we need more of those), some big towers that store dog bones.

If they are going to tax us, why not just just put a $2,000 per month tax on our ISP. (Please don't) They don't really need all the taxes they have now. If they do add taxes, then the internet, for at least the US, will be hurt forever. What's next, may be taxes to turn on light bulbs (like $200 per time you turn on an incandescent light??). They will probably make incandescent light bulbs illegal by then, the time when SUV's are illegal. When this happens, they will be glad I am in another country, maybe my own planet :-).

They should just let the people give donations, via PayPal over the internet to the government. I am sure the people who hate SUV's will chip in. If people in debt can get donations from people feeling sorry for time, I am sure that the government will get some.

Maybe hardware companies will be sure to make their devices fully Linux compatible, or at least capable of having drivers written. Remember those days when winmodems were unheard of and internal modems all actually had hardware somewhere in them? I just hope that this won't make Linux get commercialized too much.
