I'm glad some members of our scientific community is out tackling important issues like killer robots. Sheesh, how long did it take to come up with that? My guess is 6 hours...about long enough to watch the Terminator movies and the Matrix. With so many issues to deal with (which some they covered, granted), and we see some crackpots out of touch with reality wasting other peoples' time.
Well its not dead, but I don't forsee a huge proliferation of DAB in the coming years.
DAB (and Sattelite Radio) have a huge obstacle in front of them. They're competing with a medium that may be technically inferior, but who's signals can be aquired for as little as twenty bucks for a lifetime subscription.
Point taken. And to add to your argument, since it is the same programming covering the same market, the broadcasters themselves aren't going too crazy for it since it doesn't really get them any new listeners.
However i still think that goes hand in hand with the cost.
Wait for a game thats late than play one that was pushed out the door.
Blizzard is constantly late on games. Some people rake them through the coals for it. Thats a load of crap. There are very few producers out who each and every one of their games have met huge acclaims.
They consistantly produce the best games out there and I'm glad they take the time to make sure its a winner. Late releases are frustrating, but at least with a Blizzard game I know when it finally comes out I won't be disappointed.
Wouldn't you be outraged if a car company came out and asked for donations to improve safety features or fuel economy? These are company expenses to improve their product, so people buy more and they make more money. It's not something you ask for donations for.
Not the best analogy to use. You pay $20,000+ for a new car. For that kind of money, you're damn right the automakers better not be begging me for money.
However, I've paid nothing to Mandrake to download the ISO and blow a copy. Way I see it, they're asking "pay what you think its worth to you." I don't have a problem with that.
And the smell even has a resemblence to the rank odour of DIVX.

What they're really doing is trying to kill the rental market.
No more going to your local video store and renting the disk before you buy it. Plus, no more renting games with no replay value that you would want to play once.
Have fun borrowing one of your pals games too.

Nearly the entire staff were invited for dinner on a friday afternoon. After eating their scrumptious meal, they were informed that the station was sold and that they were terminated. While at dinner, all their passcards, logins, emails were shutdown. There was new staff in place monday.
The firearms registry IMHO will prevent 0 crimes and solve 0. Criminals aren't knocking over convenience stores with grandpappy's shotgun, they're using pistols, which are already subject to a registry. See how well its worked so far? All that money could have been spent on law enforcement. All the registry does is punish law-abiding citizens.
"As to privately run health care, have you seen what that's done to the health system in the US?"
Privately run health care already exists in Canada. I'm not advocating total de-regulation. As for the spectre of a 2-tier system, it exists too. The 2nd tier is called the USA.
"The CRTC has its good points"
True, they're not utterly without worth. But I consider their CanCon requirements excessive that rather than promote canadian content, encourage mediocrity. The CBSC is even worse, the self-appointed protectors of decency that are accountable to no one.
Pardon my ignorance. Should I refer to residents of the United States of America as USAians or Unitedstatians? Or is it the US-ese? Please enlighten me.
We don't have it that much better. Just like the US, our rights are dwindling away.
Americans might be under attack from colossal corporations who have the politicians bought and paid for. But in Canada we get to be under attack from our own government, who, exept for one day every 3-5 years, gets to impose their socialist policies without any fear of opposition.
In recent history we've had increasing measures that turn innocent people into criminals (Digital Media levies, the firearms registry). We have a government that wants to control every aspect of Canadians lives (national daycare, hostility to privately-run health care). Hell, they even control what we see or hear (CRTC, CBSC). And be careful if you voice your dissent, we've got us an election gag law that puts restricts private citizens' ability to run political ads.
On top of all that, as one astute/.'er pointed our Constitution doesn't even give us the right to own property!
I love my country, and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. But the way things are headed has me concerned.
These prople pull their little pricing stunt and get caught. Now they reverse it and say were giving discounts. Their not-so-informed customers will say "Wow, aren't these guys great? They're giving me a refund I didn't ask for!"
These bastards are going to come out smelling like roses.
While I agree with you that the mess started with Pettigrew, I won't believe for a moment that she was oblivious about what was going on. I conviced she knew, and parcipated in the attempted cover-up. BOTH should be held accountable along with HRDC's senior bureaucrats. At any rate, regardless of which one of our versions of the story is right, she's certainly shown that she's incapable of running the department and has no idea what the people under her are doing. Is this the the person you want all your personal information entrusted to? What about her successor? We don't even know who that is. That scares me too.
If you know anything about Jane Stewart then you know that her quote should make all Canadians very afraid. This is the woman who lost track of a billion dollars. That may not seem as much to Americans with the sheer size of their federal budget, but that sure isn't chump change north of the border.
This woman has absolutely no clue. Along with the government she belongs to. It scares me enough that this databse exists. The fact that its Jane Stewart's department terrifies me.
Who was the genius who thought it was a good idea to lead off Sega's online gaming service with Chu Chu Rocket? What the hell is a Chu Chu Rocket?
"All you have to do is herd your ChuChus (space mice) into their rocket before the Kapu Kapu (scary space cats) catch up to them."
Boyoboy am I excited. Oh, I know better things will come but if you're trying to lock people in for two years with a deal that's pretty crummy to begin with, you'd better have a "killer game" to sell it with. Chu Chu Rocket sounds about as much fun thumb screws.
Wow, this hurts. Don was one of my fave cartoonists of all time. As a child I'd always buy my Mad mag and Don's toons were the first thing I read. Ahhh Captain Klutz I hardly knew ye.... Rest well Don...You'll be missed. I raise a glass to you and say...THPLATKT!!!

If it were a Microsoft product then it wouldn't be a bug.
It would be a "feature".

FM radio is hardly quivering with fear.
I'm ready to predict people aren't going to 300 bucks for a tuner plus $10 per month. There are far more worthwhile purchases.
DAB in Canada has already been a failure. Why? Expensive tuners.

Here's the trick a radio station used...
Nearly the entire staff were invited for dinner on a friday afternoon. After eating their scrumptious meal, they were informed that the station was sold and that they were terminated. While at dinner, all their passcards, logins, emails were shutdown. There was new staff in place monday.
Thanks for comin' out!

If the Patent Office will license "1-click Patenting"?
The Timex Sinclair was my very first computer from my childhood. Its like seeing an old friend.
:)
Though I'm sure as hell not paying $100 for one nowadays!

Is it really any worse than using lawyers?

Ahhh such sweet irony!
This is truly a beautiful thing for Amazon get to burned by a stupid patent. Time for them to waste some money on lawyers.
Though it paions me so to say it, I hope they win just like I hope Amazon loses their patent suits. A stupid patent is a stupid patent.
What I'm worried about is that Amazon settles instead of fighting the suit so as not to hurt the credibility of their lawsuits.

Mine were: The Adventures of Captain Klutz and Don Martin Grinds Ahead (you can see that pun coming heheheheh)
Guess what happened? (go on...guess)
Nothing!
Happy New Year!!!
Geez...I would've been 5 at the time.
What a hysterically funny review. That just cracked me up. I couldn't remember anything about the special except that it had wookies and it sucked.
Reading the review it all came back to me...AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!! THE HORROR!!! THE HORROR!!!
YOU JUST RUINED YEARS OF THERAPY!!! I HOPE YOUR PROUD OF YOURSELF BUDDY!!!!
Well, now that the damage is done, I HAVE to see it again. If I thought it sucked when I was 5, imagine how much I'll hate it now!
Q: What do you call 6 MTV viewers buried underground?
/.ers here that are good at welding? I can think of a door that needs to be sealed.
A: A good start.
Any
MTV just sickens me. Its like a 24 hour GAP ad.
