Not my fellow/.ers who are obviously intelligent people but these silly clods like the ones that think banning website advertisements will save their sorry little suburban-hell strip mall.
Morons...if e-commerce is going to kill your mall...You can't stop it. It kind of reminds me of our postal services being dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century.
All I can do is shake my head.
Besides, I don't think malls are going to die. E-commerce may be convenient and perhaps cheaper, but its missing a few things: 1.Cash and carry, 2. the touchie feelie aspects of shopping and 3. the social interaction. The first two are important to me; I want to see the product, pick it up and bring it home...not look at a picture, then wait a week for it to show up.
Something me and buddies talked about to re-vitalize Star Teek was that to create a series (let's call it Star Trek Tales) that had 2 or 3 episode story arcs. We all agreed it would be pretty cool: A Starfleet Academy storyline for a few weeks, followed by story about a non-enterprise starhip then maybe a story from the Romulan point of view...and so on. Don't know if that sort of concept is actually workable ($$$!), but we'd still love to see it.
IIRC, Comdex Canada had the same policy in place. The reason being I believe was insurance purposes. It would cost far less to insure these events with an "adults only" limitation.
If this is the case, I hope Comdex realizes that it may be worth that extra dough to at least allow teenagers in to the event. We have a lot of very young professionals in this business...let's hope Comdex is as cutting adge as they claim to be.
It wasn't even six months ago that people talked about AMD's "Pentium Killer". Now its the other way around. Changes fast doesn't it? Used to be everyone after Intel was trying to make the Pentium Killer. This is the first time I recall in x86 land that Intel is the one making the "Killer".
Perhaps this a true sign that AMD is a legitimate competitor to Intel; not just in the low-end but the high end too. If you didn't think that already.
I mean, come on, it was a great idea but the only thing it seems to have accomplished is a make bad web pages.
Yes, you can do some cool things but ask yourself this: How often do say to yourself "Hey, that's a cool way to use Java on a web page" as opposed to "Damn this Java Applet/Script annoys the crap out of me". I find myself saying the latter.
Off the web, my few experiences have been with buggy, hideously slow apps. Bah!
Java...Ick! Yuck! Ptui! Don't even get me started on Java-Script.
This is just silly. We've endured countless Amiga stories and speculation and surprise, surprise...it's vapourware. Now they're network toasters...yipeee (oh wait, I havn't seen any product from them in that area either, so that's probably vapourware too).
Its too bad really. I wanted Amigas to come out and succeed. But enough is enough; show us something Amiga or kindly go away.
Sort of puts a whole new perspective on the prez leaving doesn't it?
Q107 is still a member of the CBSC. When the CBSC rules against you, it usually means a slap on the wrist and an on-air apology. "Oh..uh..sorry". Besides, it keeps the CRTC happy.
She filed a complaint with the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council. The CBSC is a broadcasting watchdog that most radio and TV stations are "voluntary" members of (note the quotes). The CBSC ruled against her.
Any clod can file a complaint with CBSC. So this no more different than the thousands of idle complaints that are made various governing bodies across North America. People without lives or purpose that have nothing better to do but piss and moan about everything.
The sick part is that the CBSC entertained these complaints. But that's par for the course from them. I work in radio so I know some of the silliness that they've directed at us.
Here's what I got: Astromech Droid (47), Han Solo (4, eeek!), Ewok (48, no!), Qui-Gon (69) and R2-D2 (22).
An EWOK!?!?!?!?!? How can it be?! How humiliating! Oh well, I still managed to score a Jedi, R2 and Han Solo. I guess that's some consolation. Maybe I won't have to off myself after all. Fun test though.
Allow me to add another endorsement of the Mackie boards. I've used several of them and if you're the type that's on a budget, you won't get any better. Best of all, they're built to last.
As for something $200 bucks or less? Maybe a used board, but I havn't seen any new ones that would be up to the job.

Goodbye DIVX and good riddance! May there never be another like it.
I've noticed the members of the pro-DIVX crowd often argue that it beats going to Blockbastard and having to worry about late charges. I don't get this. Doesn't a DIVX disk cost more than a rental? Isn't that like having the late charge built right in?
Also, you gotta be pissed if you 'silvered' your DIVX disk for unlimited viewing and it expires in two years. Doesn't sound very unlimited to me.
I don't have a key# yet to install it completely but I did get to the setup screen. I didn't even get that far with SO5.0 on RH6. So it looks encouraging.
"Under the proposed rules, ICANN would establish a list of protected "famous or well-known marks" that would not be available for registration to the average Internet user."
I mean, is this really meant to stop squatters? I don't think so. Remember, this would also screw many websites that we've championned here in the past.
Look more like several corporations decided bullying Joe Public out of his domain name wasn't working as well as they had hoped. So they lobby the UN and ICANN to "pre-reserve" their domain names.
I guess Intel figures what's good for M$ is good for them.
Why acknowledge that there are gaping security holes when you can just convince everyone that its a virus? There's already a precedent...can you say Word Macro-Virus? Can you say ActiveX? Prople seem to think they're helpless in the face of a "virus" when they should be howling to get the security holes fixed.
Phew! *lights smoke* that rant felt good.

Now I know what its like being addicted to crack.

Remember when they changed the Duke boys? It really sucked (ok, it already sucked, but now it sucked even more).
The moral is that it just doesn't work. Unless your show is called Law & Order.

Yeah it'll be great even if domain names are only little cheaper. More importantly, you don't have to pay Network Solutions!
I've been holding off from registering a domain just so I can deny NS their 70 bucks.
